I was reading one of the about.com articles I get and read this one about mismatched socks. The University of California are doing research on a rare weasel in the Sierra Nevada. They are examining the effects on wildlife that the thinning of the forest has on them. The use socks to hang bait in trees and use about 250 a month. Socks that you want to mail (or they can be delivered) to: SNAMP Wildlife Research Team, 40799 Elliott Drive, Oakhurst, CA 93644.

Well that is definitely one way to get rid of those un-paired socks we all have on or around our dryer. Of course, did you know that "mis-matched socks" are actually more of a thing now? THey actually sell mis-matched socks of all sorts of designs in places like walmart.

yep, my granddaughters rarely wear matching socks anymore. Oh, they match as in they were bought in the same package.

If I'm staying in or not going out anywhere important I don't care if my socks match

I could mail them a lifetime supply! LOL Seriously though, this is a great idea and cause. I have a few bags of mismatched socks. Sometimes I use them for some sort of craft like making sock people.

Hubby's are not mismatched . His wear holes in the toes and mending them, if I did, does not feel good to him. We get bags and bags of white tube socks.

That would be a good use for socks that have no mate.

what a wonderful way to reuse those socks runnin' 'round with a 'soulmate' missin'. i'd send'em mine, but've other uses fer 'em, lol. i hope that those weasels survive such, so many critters're sufferin' 's their homelands're bein' altered, 'long with droughts'n fires.

Neat idea. I read recently to put the stuff you want to use to repel wildlife in your garden in them and put them on stakes. Things like hair and Irish Spring Soap.

I use to use knee hi stockings with soap or human hair in them to keep the deer away from my gardens.

I would be glad to help, but I suppose that it's pretty expensive to send socks from Europe to the United States.

That's an interesting use for all those mismatched socks whose mate got sent to dimension X in the dryer and never returned.
