Day 119
Psalm 119:1-8
Psalm 119:1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly. (KJV)
There was a time in my life when I wanted to memorize Psalm 119. It is the longest of the Psalms, having 22 sections, 8 verses each, totaling 176 verses, and is one of the most beautiful of the psalms. A letter of the Hebrew alphabet marks each section. The first section is ALEPH. As I’ve read this Psalm many times, I realized that not one, but several people penned the different sections. Each has their own style of speaking to the people, to us.
I will present this Psalm in 22 sections, one a day, instead of all in one day. There is much here to study and rejoice over as I move through this Psalm. As each section has different authors, the time period for this Psalm can stretch from David, who I believe wrote several sections of it, including this section, through the time of the exile.
I believe David wrote this section because it starts in the same way as Psalm 1 did with how blessed we are.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Blessings are ours when we move through our day meditating on God’s Word. As we do, it is easier for us to see how Satan would distract us and tempt us to sin. With each temptation, we can rebuke Satan and he will flee from us, keeping sin from our doorsteps. As we move through our day meditating on God’s Word, we also put on our armor so that nothing Satan does will pierce through and harm us, leading us away from the path God chose for us to follow.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (KJV)
With our armor firmly in place, we will be able to hear what God tells us, and follow his instructions for our lives, and as we do so, Satan will flee from us. He will have no choice.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (KJV)
Jesus told us there are two paths for us to follow. One leads to eternal life, the other to destruction. When we allow Jesus to direct our footsteps, we will always walk the path leading to eternal life.
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.
Meditating on God’s Word is the best thing we can do for our lives. It brings us countless blessings and keeps us on the straight and narrow road leading to salvation and eternal life.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for giving me your Word so I might meditate on it every day, delighting in your Word, and walking the path you laid out for me. Help me recognize when Satan is hindering my walk as I keep myself in your Word. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

When I was younger, I got used to singing the last verses in this Psalm in a Hebrew melody called a nigun-the section of the Psalm known as Tav (I think the KJV writes it as Tau, but that is a Latinized form Anglicanized)-it is a very heartful climax of both confession and the prayer for salvation-in a verse, it sums up the repeated theme of the Psalm.

Again a good message, thank you! Medidating is good and even thinking of God is enough in some cases.
I always seem to think Satan is an entity, a being as I have seen Christians often talk about Satan in that sort of way. But is Satan really an entity? Or is a negative thought or a negative emotion is Satan too? Please clear the confusion for me.... ?

Satan is not an entity. He is a fallen angel. His name is Lucifer and was one of the archangels in heaven and was in charge of the music of heaven. I can verify that if you like with scripture references. He was the one that caused the war in heaven and God cast him out. He's also the one responsible for causing sin to enter the world through Eve - tempting her to eat the fruit.
