OK, for this evening's post I'm going to show you a photograph and ask you what it is. Your task is to do nothing, say it's disgusting, be literal, or be creative. I took this photograph last Friday.

I just took a sip of Scotch, and it looks like a banana slug kissing a garlic clove.

More importantly, do YOU know it is? I think it is a squash or gourd of some sort.

I'm worried that it may be alien. What is a "triffid"? I've heard the word but don't know what it means.

An unfertilized summer squash female flower.. or maybe an alien flower that eats up humans who post them.

Oh, that would be interesting! Perhaps they grow legs and can invade your house, leading to itchy families everywhere.

A baldy with a beard. Those tests are scary, our friends who were majoring in psychology would catch us and take us to the lab and use us in their experiments.....then they would come up with all sorts of things you never knew you had inside you The bonus was the dept would give us food coupons..."guinea pigs" being fed

It looks like a zucchini, or a squash at a very early stage. What a shame the flower is gone, they are delicious battered and fried. I plant zucchini just for the flowers.

@TheHorse I think you can munch it without cooking, I have seen the flowers added to salads.

What's a marrow related to? Here we call them (what I've planted) yellow squash.

It's a yellow squash that is forming very nicely and your garden police will not have any trouble with you on that one. Well done!

I see a wilting flower on the end of it. I didn't think it was a vegetable but the stem of a flower.

Squash plants flower, then a bulb (the squash) forms and grows. This one is a baby still.

Although I've never grown these, I've eaten a lot of them for breakfast. It looks to me like summer squash which is similar in taste to a zucchini.
