Josh Was Totally Weirded Out

As I wrote earlier my daughter saw a cockroach on the table in the kitchen last night. Now tonight Josh saw two scurrying around the same area. Ugh! Ick! Yuck! Etc.
I did some reading and found several ways to rid ourselves of them. I will also be calling maintenance tomorrow. I have lived in these apartments now for about fifteen years. We have never had any cockroaches before this year. I think it is because we have some refugees living her now and they may be bringing them in their possessions. Same as it was with the bed bugs. I don't think it is fair that we have to go through this. My goodness. We went through head lice when my granddaughter was in school. Then the bed bugs the summer of 2015. And now this in 2016. This is horrible and I don't need the stress. I always think things like management is going think it is our falt and evict us. Ugh! Must not go there.
Have to keep crumbs up off the floor, off counters and such. They need to have a water source and a food source. They have been present for a little over a month I think. A maintenance guy came to the door one day a little over a month ago and asked if we had seen any. First seen in Josh's room upstairs and then in mine. None were in the motel the maintenance guy put in the bathroom. So I put that one down in the kitchen.
Josh wants to move. He didn't know if he could sleep tonight at all. I told him what it would take for us to move. First and last months rent, and a cleaning deposit. Probably about $2000 at least. Plus moving costs. There is no way we can. We live here because of the Section 8, the rent is about 3/4 what it would be elsewhere. We can hardly cover food costs much less save to move. So he went and watched a video to get his mind off of them and then was able to go to sleep about 2a. Poor guy!

The cockroaches show up if there is food not kept in good conditions, I do not believe that the refugees have something to do with them. We had this problem in France, when a bakery shop opened in our building. They were attracted by the bread crumbs and flour. I bought traps to capture and kill them and in a couple of weeks we got rid of them. You can buy the traps on Amazon.

If a maintenance guy was asking you about them already? I doubt they'd evict you, thinking you'd caused them. Are tehse apartment buildings older as well? Not all section 8 apartments are "up to par."
I lived in one growing up. Those same apartments are now much much nicer, though I don't think they are under section 8 anymore.
I hope you can get rid of them, I can't say I blame Josh for not wanting to sleep. I once had a centipede crawl on my bed and I had to wash the bed clothing all over again! I had just done so the previous night!

Section 8 has lost a lot of funding I guess here. But they usually right on anything that needs doing.
Ugh! Have seen centipedes and they are scary.

Head lice was years ago and she got them from school. We lived in a different apartment then.

I'd want to move too, but that was the best way to handle it, not tell him no, just tell him what it would take to be able to do so

@Jessicalynnt ....It just might. I don't have the energy to do it though and I doubt Cami does either.

I thought so too. I would love to move. This place is really getting shabby. Needs painted and such. But it isn't in their budget. So we live in dingy rooms. We are already depressed. LOL

I really hope you can get rid of them. If you haven't had them before now, they should be relatively easy to get rid of, but they've also had plenty of time to multiply. Back when we had them bad when we were living in Illinois, I learned that each egg sack carries 300 of them. Just something to think about. I haven't seen any since I moved to Wisconsin.

@celticeagle poor Josh. These little things seem to creep in wherever they are not wanted. I hope you can get rid of these intruders.

Sometimes roaches get inside from the sewer or house drain through a hole usually under the sink, a pipe that connects to it and hidden by a cabinet
I read that in theory, for evey 1 adult roach you see, there are at least 50 hidden in the vicinity.
, i usually fumigate our house with bug spray by spraying and closing the doors of rooms when people are not around.

I called maintenance and they will let us know in the next few days whether they will send out an exterminator or what will transpire. Ugh! I have read up on them and it says you have to do something to get rid of them and then expect them back about three times before they all die off. I would rather go exterminate if possible and they come out three times and get rid of them for sure. Ugh! Ick! and Oooo.

The landlord will spray. It is scheduled for Wednesday. Have no where to go for hours. No transportation.

Take all card board out of your apartment. They love that stuff. They actually eat the glue in them and use them as homes. Boric acid kills them.

Maintenance is having a sprayer come on Wednesday. I just have enough cardboard boxes to hole my books when we need to box them. Thanks for the info I did some research and learned about the borax and water treatments. Be glad when this is behind us.

Maintenance people come to all these apartment once a year and put out little roach boxes under the sinks and in back corners of cabinets and we have never seen a roach. They replace them once a year. You might buy some of those and put them in back of cabinets in kitchen and bathroom. They work here.

I don't have any way to go shop for any. I looked online and didn't even know what I was looking for. Couldn't find just the roach motels. So I called maintenance. and they will come out in a day or so and may have an exterminator come out. We'll see.
