While our MPs are demanding a 100% pay hike and avail pensions by hardly working for five years a pensioner in India even if he has retired as a class I officer finds it very difficult to make ends meet. They somehow manage three square meal a day(especially in Odisha/Orissa, India). Is this justified?

Yes the payrolls are not consistent. I think people do what they have to do for life.

In my Utopia world, MPs, and MLAs would get nothing except medical treatment in the country for self and wife during the period they are so serving the country. Only those who want to serve the country with whole heart and not expect anything in return need to be there. Yeah...I am a tough customer everywhere..lol

@skysnap ...Nope...my MPs and MLA's go door to door teaching everybody how to use cell phones and how they need to vote. My MPs and MLAs also explain the issues to general public so that the general public votes. As to issues...before going for elections, I list them out neatly how I intend to do them. Don't call it Utopian as yet...there was a party in Singapore that expressed in detail its health care policy ..it is a different thing that it did not win. But that is how election manifesto should be. People should be made aware upfront what they are voting for.

In truth the income of pensioners will always be an issue they are never given the respect or pay they deserve, one reason I say we have to re-consider the whole question of retirement. I see no reason why people should have to retire.

@aninditasen I believe an MP's pay should be set at the average wage for the members of their constituency (including the unemployed and homeless people in the area). That way they are more likely to support the poorest tiers of their community.

Peter you are right a person should be allowed to work as long as he is physically and mentally fit. Moreover MPs or politicians these days are not peoples choice they get their position through money game.
