The Photos Are Hung

I've been going on and on about having our kitchen/lounge area painted and making frames ready to hang some of Vin's photos. We have brought back the photos that were being displayed at the winery and are now going to put some in a coffee shop. We will hang some of these framed so between 4pm and bedtime yesterday we cut and made another four frames. The glue will have dried overnight and today they'll get sanded and painted. We've had a bit of a windfall as the auto shop in town is being taken over by another company and there is a sale of surplus stock including spray cans of paint. We're going to buy a small selection of various colours as spray painting the frames gives a better finish. We also need spray paint from time to time for the decorations that we make for each music shack concert. The photos in our lounge may not stay like this but I really like the white frames against the grey wall. There is only the one wall that is this colour which is called 'ticking'. Once all mattresses were covered with ticking – a tough white material with narrow black stripes. I suppose that is where the paint gets its name from. Do any older readers remember ticking?

Haha. I can see some of us remember it. It would be nice to be too young to have heard the word, wouldn't it?

Oh those are stunning instruments - Who plays the Cello? Nice photos on the wall, it looks quite antique in a way - the colour of the wall shows them off

The double bass is ours but our son plays it. He has his own in Ireland but we keep this one here. It is handy for him to keep it here as he can still play for a gig or whatever when he comes home.

I absolutely LOVE your accent wall. The photos are gorgeous as well, especially the pink one against the grey wall! What a lucky find, all those paints for a good price!

The one of the canoes we'll probably swap to a white background then a dark frame and hang it on a light-coloured wall. The rose is one of my favourites.

I like the color of the frames, they look great on your grey wall. I remember ticking used to design a strong cotton fabric.

They must have had an oldie naming the paint on that day. Alfredo remembers ticking. And yes it is a strange word.

@Jessicalynnt There is only the one dark wall so we've reversed the colours on the other walls. I'll put up a post about that one day.

I've heard of it and knew it had to do with bedding, but didn't know exactly what in connection with bedding. I love the picture of your lounge! Your piano must be an antique, at least it looks like one and the seat is fantastic! I've never seen one like it. The pictures grace that wall perfectly.

Thanks for the kind words. The piano was made in the 1890s and the piano stool was bought for me when I was learning. It really needs a revarnish. We're really pleased with the photos.

Ticking is just black and white stripe but the black stripes are thin.

Yes, I remember ticking. I was never sure whether it was the black and white stripes part that were called ticking, or whatever the mattresses were stuffed with that was called ticking. Now that you've explained it was the fabric, I have to wonder why the name was dropped, and where it came from in the first place.

Maybe I have it wrong but I always thought it was the fabric. Nowadays they don't use that colour fabric any more.
