What Are You Afraid Of?

Me? I’m terrified of spiders, especially the big, hairy-looking ones. Just thinking about them gives me the chills. I don’t know why I’m so scared of them. But I do know that it’s the number ONE phobia in the world, so I’m not alone. Bees also, especially wasps. Oh, how I hate them. I HAVE been stung by wasps, more than once and it is so painful. I cannot come up with any use for wasps. Honey bees make honey and pollinate flowers. Wasps? They have no use as far as I am concerned. Can you think of any use for them? I’m NOT afraid of snakes. I don’t LIKE them exactly, but I’m not really afraid of them, because they usually slither away from humans unless they feel trapped. My husband has a fear of snakes. And I know a lot of other people who has that fear, also. Did you know that most persons who die from a snake bite, die of shock, even when the snake is non-poisonous? It’s true. And a black snake is a good snake to have in your back yard, because they scare away and even kill other snakes. I’m not afraid of heights either. I’m not afraid of flying, although recently it’s become a hassle at the airport and there is always the chance that something could go wrong, as we all know. I’ve flown thousands of miles, to the Far East and Europe and all over the USA. What are you afraid of? Picture of beehives by Pixabay

snakes, I don't care if they are big, little, in cages or not. I just cannot handle seeing them, not even in a movie.

@crazyhorseladycx Oh that sounds just horrible. So you had a baby in your arms. Thank goodness the baby didn't get stung. Poor pup though. Oh my goodness. I just can't imagine what you suffered.

Many spiders are poisonous but they are also beneficial in that the kill and eat other harmful bugs like mosquitoes and flies. It's probably human nature to avoid spiders for both of those reasons. Wasps stings are also venomous and can send someone who is allergic into shock pretty quickly, but they also eat other harmful insects including spiders, caterpillars, ants bees and flies. My personal phobia is being locked in somewhere and unable to get out. It's claustrophobia, a fear of closed in places. In a restaurant or other public building I am uncomfortable sitting in a place where I can't see the door. If a bathroom lock is not totally sound, I will leave the door a little bit ajar because I am afraid of getting locked in. If I am in a public business and it is near closing time, I have to leave pretty quickly for fear of being locked in when everyone else leaves.

Many people feel the way you do. How about elevators? I rode the elevator up in the Empire State Building in New York and the Sears Tower in Chicago. We could feel the building sway. I wouldn't do it again.

@IreneVincent Elevators don't really bother me, but if I was stuck on one I would probably freak out.

I am afraid of pain itself so wasps/snakes/bees/needles/etc...are all scary to me. I hate pain so much.

Sharks, deep dark waters, everything else in the ocean, being surrounded by water but not drowning.

OH, I have to agree with you there. Humans don't belong in shark invested waters. It's their home.

Snakes pretty much creep me out... but perhaps I won't be quite so freaked out if I see a black one!

Yes, black snakes are good to have around. Of course, I wouldn't want one in my house.
