The Bone Head at Work

I went to my job this afternoon and saw this skull sitting in the leaves by the back. Someone had stuck a stick in an opening at the bottom. I decided to take a photo of it for your viewing pleasure. Does anyone have any idea what animal this is from? The teeth look sharp and it looks like there is a large tooth or fang missing on each side. I did look for the rest of it but did not find anything else. Did you ever find a skeleton or part of one, hopefully not human? What was it and what did you do with it? Are there any boneheads where you work?

I've seen plenty of sheep, cow and horse skulls but you say this is quite small. The eye sockets seem exceptionally large.

I noticed that, too. I saw one online that was almost identical. It said it was a raccoon but I thought they were bigger than that.

@JudyEv Yes, it is surprising to me how much I want to know what this poor creature once was.

I couldn't even guess what it is, but it isn't a cat. We found a cat skeleton one time, almost complete. The kids were being homeschooled so we used it as a project. It was pretty cool to see how it fit together.

@akalinus A cat's skull is much shorter than this one. I hope you find out what it is! I will have to ask the kids if they remember that.

@akalinus Yeah, I see that. I hope you find someone to identify it for you! Let us know if you do.

It would have been easier to identify if the mandible was there. The top part was all there was.

I would like to know what it is if you find out. I have found many skulls from deer, elk, antelope and lots of small animals. I have kept some of them.

Growing up I had a muskrat skull that I kept in a box. Since then we found an almost complete moose skull in the bush along with a few other scattered bones. Hope we don't ever find a human skeleton. It is possible though. Right about the time we moved to the area someone disappeared back here. His parents are still offering a reward for information. I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news though.

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I lived in the country, a friend found a body in her backyard. It had been there for years. When I got to her house, the police were guarding the road that led to the back of the property.

@akalinus I'm not sure he's here. He was an adult and sometimes someone who disappears doesn't want to be found. I don't know though. His dad was back here with another friend searching and I had a good chat with them. Seemed like a nice enough person. Hope none of my kids put me through something like that.

That is creepy! Sometimes people are boneheads at my volunteer job but usually everyone is quite cool.

Yes, I've found lots of skeletons, Jo Ann. That one looks fairly similar to a possum or a raccoon, maybe.

@akalinus cow and calf, horse, dogs, farm yard animals, lots of birds, small animals caught in traps, shot for food and shot because they were attacking our livestock. I have even seen human bones.

@DaddyEvil You must live in the country. I found small animal skeletons when I lived in the woods. Where did you see human bones and did you report them? I have not had that experience yet. Hopefully, never.

only once in my teens I found the skull and skeleton of a cat that we had that had been missing Since the adults all acted very oddly I surmised that one of them might have killed it himself for some reason.

I have not seen one of those in ages. Chupacabras do not like to be described as ordinary!

The head is just a little bigger than my hand. The two big teeth are missing.

@shshiju It was in the back yard. Just laying there in some leaves. I saw it when I came in and looked for more but could not find anything.

No I've never just seen one laying around in the dirt or grass or anywhere. And I don't know what that one is. I have artsy friends who love skulls of all sorts and who would have grabbed that one to make art out of!

That is just the top part of the head. I did search a frog skeleton online and not sure about that.
