How to get more responses on discussions?

Singapore

I'm wondering how come some mylotters are able to generate so many responses and comment when they put up a discussion. I've looked through some of these discussions and I'm puzzled. The topics or subject matter do not seem so special or unique after all. Does anyone know why they are so successful as far as getting lots of responses and comments is concerned?

Just when you think you know all the answers, they go and change all the questions...

@pgntwo Why do you say that? Did you know the answers before they change the questions? (I think you mean rules, right?)

@succeednow Simply put, what works once may not work twice. Luck of the draw.

@pgntwo So you also have the same opinion as some other folks here who said that luck is the key.

@succeednow,To be honest,I don't know.Generally discussions that are well written and are about light topics attract more views.

@else34 Thanks for responding. Perhaps you're right about light topics attracting more views and hence responses.

@else34 No, I think that would be too boring. I'm sure that will turn people off.

@succeednow You may share your day to day experiences here.

I think some of it depends on how active a person is on the discussions of others. It gets them noticed, and often people will check out the discussions of a responder.

@succeednow I'm not totally sure. I'm not as active as I could be. I think you need to be regularly active on the same people's posts. Something I couldn't do; I'm only active on a post if the subject interests me.

@egdcltd That might help but it does not always work, does it?

Honestly, I'm really not sure how some discussions can get 20 plus responses, while others only get 5 to 10. It's just the way it is, I guess.

@succeednow If there is, I haven't found out what it is. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@dodo19 There must be some reason. I find it hard to believe that it's based on "luck".

Its kind of a mystery! I would say having a bunch of followers may help. I see folks who consiatently get 20 plus. I usually get 5-10 which is not too bad.

Also something else I noticed is your tags - you could modify the way you do those. Tags are essentially so people can find your discussion with a number of key words. So for example cut that very long phrase into several general key words and separate them with commas (ie: mylot, discussions)

@maezee Yes, it's indeed a mystery. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Commenting on others post will help you with that.

@skysnap I've tried that. In fact, for some members I comment or respond more than once on the same discussion but to no avail.

@succeednow yeah that happens but it does create some earning for you.

Maybe because they have been active in responding to others post as well? So, that is the reason they get many responses too on their discussions. I am not sure if my opinion counts. I think that maximum number of responses I got from my post in this site is 20.

@annierose It could be but I've also noticed that some are active in responding to others' posts and yet they don't have so many for their own discussions. The thing is if one can consistently get a lot of responses from one's discussions then perhaps this is the key.

Maybe if you have an interesting discussion that will give you more responses. Some silly discussions earn replies too but maybe the quantity of friends is also a factor.
• Singapore
24 Jul 16
@zearah I don't think the topic is the key as you've rightly pointed out that "silly discussions" attract lots of replies. I'm not sure about quantity of friends. There are some who have lots of followers and followings but are not so successful.

Those (like me) who gets many reponses do not write a lot, but are very active every day. The discussions stay there for several days, so they get more comments.

@LadyDuck Perhaps that's the key - just be active every day. But what do you mean by being active? To be online at myLot for at least 2 - 3 hours a day? Or just log in once a day will do?

@succeednow I am online at least 4 hours every day on myLot, this is the only way to get many comments. If you do not visit the others, read their posts and leave interesting comments, nobody will reply to your comments.

The main thing I can think of is that they are interesting to other people. They are things they can relate to, often common experiences that everyone has and can comment on. If something is mysterious or different, that works too. I mostly talk about what is happening now.
• Singapore

@akalinus Yes, I'm sure if the post or discussion topic is interesting or provide useful information it will generate more responses but I've seen even very boring or mundane issues get lots and lots of responses. It's quite a mystery.

The comments are more than one word that would cause only a like, but are meant to have a return response to them to keep the discussion going. It's hard to continue a discussion when you have nothing to work with.
• Singapore
25 Jul 16
@just4him True, that's why interacting rather than just responding is more important to maintain the discussion. But after having said that I've to admit that at times I'm also guilty of such one word response when I cannot find anything much to say but wanted to agree and encourage the initiator of the discussion.

Hi succeednow. If I may, I have found that being the architect of your own words will encourage all the dialogue you need. Just be a confident mylotter and take it from there.
• Singapore
25 Jul 16
@Talknpen I doubt that is the key as I see quite a few very good writers but they don't seem to amass lots of comments and responses.

@succeednow Look at quality and not so much quantity, It is all about expression and being true to yourself for someone like me.

Usually if you read and respond to other members articles they will read and respond to your articles. I don't get oodles of responses but those I respond to usually do the same for me.
• Singapore

@RubyHawk Generally I think if what you do to others, others will do to you is logical. But my question is: how come for the same person some discussions can get so many responses while others get so few.
