What's Your Worst Experience On An Airplane?

I have flown thousands of miles. I’ve flown to the Far East, Europe and several islands in the Atlantic and Pacific and to quite a few states in the U. S. I have actually had pleasant flights on most of my trips, but once in a while, there were some not so pleasant experiences. Once was when we were leaving St. Thomas, just as a hurricane was due to hit the island. Once we boarded the flight, a flight attendant announced that there were some persons at the airport that were offering $500 in cash and another ticket for a later flight to anyone who would give up their seat and take a later flight. No one left the plane. As we were ascending, up through the outer bands of the hurricane winds that were bearing down on the island, the plane began to shake violently and there was a piercing whine that was so loud, I had to hold my hands over my ears. This continued for some time and it sounded like the airplane was about to explode or shake to pieces. Finally, after what seemed like a very long time, the jet broke through the top of the clouds and climbed far above the hurricane. The silence that followed was very welcome to our ears and we got back home safely. I’ll tell you about another experience later. What about you? Have you ever had a frightening experience on an airplane? Aerial View of Puerto Rico by Pixabay

That does sound very frightening. I would have been very pleased to land safely after such a flight.

I have given up flying altogether, mostly because of the all the hassle at the airports and secondly because of the danger we now see happening. I don't really need to go anywhere anyway. I'm perfectly happy to stay on the ground.

@JudyEv Well, I certainly hope that you will have SAFE and comfortable flights. That will be wonderful for you to be able to your sons.

@IreneVincent We hope to go to see one son in Melbourne at Christmas and the other in Ireland in May. Flying is the only option really.

when i flew to Egypt, l was already very hungry because my husband refusd to buy anything and l did not have any money,so we went without food for over 10 hours. In the plane the turbelance was so bad the food trolley(?)moved from 1 end to the next knocing a stewardess down. I begged God to please spare my life till l had eaten and promised l will be ready to die after food and will not blame him but not before. when l think of it today, l can laugh, but not back then,it was bad, every few minutes, this feeling of someone tearing out your guts as the plane bumped and bumped

You must have been VERY hungry. That's a terrible feeling. But, for the turbulence to move the food trolley like that, that must have been a really rough flight.

@IreneVincent I was so convinced we were going to die,the turbulence was at times so bad l hoped we`d go down now than prolong the suffering l was surprised when we landed.

@miniam Wow! That sounds like a LOT of turbulence. I have had a few flights where there was mild turbulence, but your experience sounds really bad.

Wow, your experience on the plane at St. Thomas, that is quite something! I don't blame the fact that no one took the 500 dollars offered (plus another plane ticket) for someone to give up their seat for a later flight, type deal. Personally, I am 25 years old, and I think I have flown maybe around 15 times in my life time. Like yourself, I have travelled, fairly extensively, maybe not quite as much. But, I have been to Europe, to South America, to Hawaii, different parts of the Caribbean, Mexico, around Canada, I believe that's it. Truthfully, I have had very good luck with the plane rides, for the most part. I can only really remember two instances that might be sort of.. Something. One more recent, one, not so much. One was back in 2002, when I travelled to Brazil, there was really really bad turbulence that I had experienced from flying from Sao Paulo to Rio. The weird thing was, I apparently slept through it though, but I just heard it was absolutely terrible! Secondly, I recently travelled to Curacao, in the Caribbean, back in February, and there was quite bad turbulence as well. Besides that, I have not had any problems really to speak of.. I have honestly been very fortunate!

I was trying to remember when I wrote this post, when was the last time I flew anywhere and honestly I don't remember. It's been a while though.

I have never experienced a bad plane flight. But I have experienced a bad airport experience. I got held up in Paris DeGaulle for several hours which caused a late arrival home.

Yes, airport delays are very common nowadays, it seems. It's one of the reasons, I don't want to travel anymore. Too much hassle. I know it's important, but I think I'll just stay home. I've done a LOT of traveling in my younger years, so I'll just skip the airport thing.
