Modesty goes out the window when you are sick

I remember when I would never let anyone help me when I was hurt. The first time that I ever accepted help was when I had to take out the packing after having hemorrhoidectomy. I sat in the sitz bath at the hospital and tried. I couldn't do it for the pain. I called for help and the nurse had me hang onto the towel rack while she counted to 3. I screamed and broke the towel rack off the freaking wall.
Now I am a hospice patient and I have a male and I am totally comfortable with him. I'll start bathing where I can. He makes me wear my oxygen when I'm in the bathroom. He makes my bed and comes back and stands near, in case I need something. We talk and make all kinds of conversation about growing up and stuff.
I said all that to say that I maintain a tiny bit of modesty, as much as I can, but it's not a big deal. I'm as comfortable with him as I was with the women CNA. In fact, my RN said all of his patients love him. To me, it's no different. I don't see him as a MAN, but as a CNA. To me a nurse is a nurse and not a gender.

If I were paralyzed!, I would appreciate the help. The women we have had were good for awhile and then one would tell me how to act and she pushed the line talking to her about me and keep it quiet and don't tell her husband. The second one I liked but she wanted me to call the office and sing her praises. I did it with her standing over me. I didn't like being put on the spot.

@OreoBrownie You've got to be lucky with carers, especially when they are doing really personal things for you. My paralysed friend had a team of helpers as she needed 24 hour care, but she wouldn't have anybody she didn't like.

We had to make changes with two previous workers. They got too much into our family dynamics. The last female worker I had went on and on about the cops killing black people. I told her I didn't want to hear that because our family member was a police officer ambushed and shot in the head before he could get out of his squad Carano murdered by Jamie Hood. It was all over the news.
She said we're tired of it. She was justifying the murder of our police officer. Then when she was done she insulted my son in law. So my daughter got both women removed from my care. Ted does not cross any boundaries and takes great care of me.

That is so interesting. I hadn't thought of that before. I have had male nurses and it didn't really effect me either. It is great they went into the profession.

I don't think in terms of gender. A nurse is a nurse.

Yeah, it's not like they have never seen a woman before.

That's right. I'm sick enough for me on hospice. Male or female doesn't matter,

oh I totally agree. I have had to have things done that would have embarrassed the heck out of me in the past. but I also feel a nurse or CNA are just caring people doing their job no matter what gender. I have a male nurse every other week. but I have never yet had to ask assistance with that luckily. my daughter always tells me I can do it myself. even though I do have to keep the oxygen on me. I have a chair and tub/shower bars to hold on. still, it is a tough job to do. takes everything out of me.
