Day 130 Psalm 119:89 Psalm 119:89 LAMED. Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abides. 91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. 92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. 93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. 94 I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts. 95 The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies. 96 I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad. Nothing in this life is settled or can be. Everything comes to an end sooner or later. If you have lived a long life, you have seen many changes as progress takes hold and new things take over the old ways. However, the psalmist knew there was one thing that would never end, and that is God’s Word. Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (KJV) 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. God settled his Word in heaven and nothing will ever change it. People change, but God never changes. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Therefore, if God never changes, the psalmist knew he could trust everything in the law God handed down to Moses on Mount Sinai. Since he could trust God’s law, his intention was to study it and delight in it, because by it he had life no matter what man devised against him. His statement that he belonged to God, showed that no matter what, he knew God would take care of him in every situation. What kind of statement can you make about your life? Is God’s Word settled in your life? Do you see God’s faithfulness in your life? Do you hunger and thirst after God’s Word so they are your meat and drink. We know evil surrounds us. We can see it every time we turn on the news, open a newspaper, or search the Internet. However, that evil cannot do permanent harm to us if we know Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Man can kill the body, but he cannot kill the soul, and if your soul belongs to Jesus, you will live eternally in heaven. That is what the psalmist knew, and that promise is ours today. Let’s pray: Father, thank you that your Word is settled in heaven and nobody can change it. Help me to look to you when man seeks to destroy my life, knowing that all evil comes from Satan, and you defeated Satan on Calvary’s cross through the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ. Show me your faithfulness as I seek to live my life in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 27 July 2016 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

I like that we can use the Psalms of the Old Testament in our lives today, knowing that those promises of God still hold true for us today.
