Swollen and Bruised

Yesterday morning I had a thyroid biopsy, also know as a thyroid aspiration, on both my right and left thyroid. While I was there I found out some interesting things. My right thyroid is lumpy and bumpy and my left thyroid is not only pushing against my windpipe but growing downward.
They had a problem getting into my right side and getting what they needed. The nodule they needed to aspirate was deep. Needless to say I am bruised and swollen in the throat area.
It is going to take about a week to get back the results. I don't know what they are going to do about my thyroid but it is going to be a very long week waiting for results.
Wish me luck. At least if it is cancerous, thyroid cancer is the easiest to take care of.

@HazySue I remember the day my daughter called and told me he had cancer. I thought my whole world had caved in. At that point they didn't know what kind, and we were all relieved it was thyroid and treatable and curable. He was diagnosed when he was 10. He's a handsome 24 year old now.

My mother had her thyroid removed - it wasn't cancer it was annoying her - She always said she felt like something was stuck in her throat. Since they didn't remove the whole thing she didn't have to go on thyroid meds. Good luck, try not to worry too much.

@AbbyGreenhill I understand what she means. My thyroid is annoying me. I can't lay on my back, have a hard time swallowing, and a whole host of other things. I am glad they were able to help her. I try to divert my worry by reading or writing.

Fine needle aspiration is a really poor test that gives a lot of inconclusive results. Regardless of how the results come back, I'd say you're going to need to get shot of that thyroid if it's pushing on your windpipe. I had inconclusive results but the surgeon said nobody could live with a lump the size of mine and the threat of getting suffocated as it grew.

I hope the results are good, much good luck. I have had a few biopsy's and they are certainly not fun.

@fishtiger58 I do know this one ended up not being fun. I am bruised and swollen more today than I was two days ago. The results will be fine, if not they can take out the thyroid and get rid of the cancer.

Let's hope that the results are good. I understand one can still function well after removal of one thyroid gland. Wish you luck.

i guess it was under general anesthesia? are there things you're not allowed to do for a while?

@hereandthere General anesthesia and I am not restricted from doing anything. The general anesthesia was ok for the left but the right side was very painful.

Hi, my dear! Just got back after quite a longer lull. Found this in my notifs. Now, you got me worried!
Had that aspiration & it indeed hurts! But got the result my Docs needed. It showed I've got 2 types of thyroid ca, papillary with follicular variant. Surgery followed.
Got to read your other posts to know what went on after that aspiration you had.
I pray you don't have thyroid ca.
