Board Games

This isn't a write up of power play by influential people taking over companies!
I am talking about the games we used to play before internet and computers took over.
Every society has their own variety of board games. Many such games have now been reincarnated in their digital form. The old varieties have been discarded or pushed into some corner.
A fellow my lotter @marlina had remarked on the fun she was having playing scrabble with her sister. So, when I recently went home for a visit I dug out our old scrabble board and we had an enjoyable time playing it.
Board games that we played a lot were Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly.
What about you all? What games did you all play and do you still play them now?
photo: mine, for the mylotter crowd.

We used to play more than we do now. I often play Scrabble when I go to see my mother - and she often wins, despite being 95 years young! My husband and I never play chess, though. In the comparatively early stages of our 44-year-old marriage he told me I was the worst player he'd ever played against - and promptly received board and chessmen over his head, along with derogatory comments about his performance at bridge! In retrospect, I have to admit that we were both probably correct...

@responsiveme No, we don't play either game now! At least, I have been known to deal out four hands for bridge and try to forget each hand as I bid for the dummy, but it gets very confusing. Rik has been known to play chess on line, too.

Ha Ha both the chess armies went into battle together with your husband.
So do you both play both the games now?
I don't know either. My younger son is a very good chess player but I haven't ever got the hang of it.

On line I play words with friends with my sister and a couple of other games on FB. When at home with people who want to play I love scrabble, Rummykub (favorite) Canasta (cards) and Parcheesi.

@responsiveme Things have been crazy! That's why I haven't been here much.
I last played a game with my son and a group of people. My daughter-in-law even bought it for me. I can't remember the name of it, but it's in our vacation home in Florida. Fun game, whatever it's called. Lol! We all had a good time. I'm sure you felt the same.

My favorite was dominoes. We had some boards our parents made of a game called Yahoo. It used dice and was much like parchesi. My extended family will still play card games when we gather.

I bought monopoly for my nephews and niece. They all enjoyed it. It is better than iPad version as they say. :)
I played with them and it is really fun.
When I was a child I play snake and ladders, boggle, scramble, and millionaire's game :)

We used to play scrabble, the four of us (my family) and it was fun. But now that we have smartphones and gadgets, we play on our own. My Dad plays soduko, my Mom plays candy crush, my sis is occupied with FlowFree and I, whatever game is available. No Pokemon go yet.

We played Monopoly, but not very often... A lot of the time we played Sequence, but most of the time we played Gin Rummy. Once in a great while we played Skip-bo or Spades...

@responsiveme I am sure you have! If you can find it, I really recommend Sequence! It is a board game that I really like! Let me look...
I have no clue if you can get it in India or not, though. Skip-bo and Spades are both card games. No board involved.

My favorite board game was Clue. I loved figuring out who killed Mr. Body, with what, and in what room. I was pretty good at it when I was a kid (if I do say so myself haha).

I like the positioning of the tiles on the scrabble board. It speaks of how you really like this site. It's good to know you like board games. I do like many of them like chess and scrabble. I played ladders and snakes with my kids. It's a lot of fun especially for them and develops bonding as well. I do play these board games when I have a qualified playmates. Hope to play more when i get older. It's good recreation activities for the whole family.
