Our Crumbling Infrastructure

Are you living in a state or country where the infrastructure is pretty solid? Here in Michigan, we have too many poor roads in need of repair and bridges that need work on. We don't spend enough on our roads, and we have the heaviest weight limits on trucks anywhere in the U.S. How is your infrastructure?

I think one problem when it comes to road maintenance is that those responsible for fixing them only treat the surface problems (which are cheaper) rather than fixing the root problem. For example, near me a road had suffered damage due to weather, and they repaired the potholes rather than the road. The result was the rest of the road deteriorated. Another couple of examples include bridges, one over a road and one over a river. Both had problems from too much weight on them. The "fixes" were to close the river bridge and reduce the road bridge from two lanes to one.

Too often fixes are temporary. Money restrictions come into play.

@zebra2222 Yes, and the fact that there's pressure to spend the entire budget in a year, rather than letting any surplus roll over, means there's no way of building up cash for major jobs.

We are still waiting for Obama to fulfill his promise of 8 years ago to create jobs to repair the crumbling infrastructure.

Obama hasn't been able to get the GOP to fund increases in infrastructure to create the jobs and get more work done on our poor infrastructure.
