Controlling Internet Addiction

The Internet is like a huge library where we can have almost all the answers instantly in just one click. It can also be a good way to earn money and to socialize with other people. I do not get bored in our house as long as I have my Internet running. I can say that there are days in which I spend almost 8 hours on the Internet: reading blogs, checking Facebook notifications, mylotting, blogging, checking my student's works and chatting with my friends. And when there are times I do not use my laptop, I have my mobile phone on the go. Definitely, I am an internet addict! I have been spending more time in front of my computer than with my mom and my sisters. I have told myself that I will read a book but when I am already in front of my computer, it seems that what I want to do online are endless. I would like to end the addiction by turning off my computer and my wifi at 7PM. I will check if I can do it for a week. Have you been experiencing such when you are using the Internet? How do you control your computer or internet usage?

I control my time on the Net by using my trusted timer.

@annierose Just a simple timer that I bought at Walmart, that's all.

@marlina Oh, I thought it has something to do with a computer software.

I've got to the stage in my life where if I want to do something, I do it. Therefore I don't need to curtail my time on here - I'm not hurting anyone else. However, that's not to say that I'm addicted - I spend a lot of my time in my garden, or going out with my family etc.

Perhaps you can tell yourself that your life is balance. Mine I think is not.

I'm fond of using the internet but not addicted though. I find it boring sometimes. I guess because I seem to enjoy my life offline. I would rather go to the beach and see the sunrise in person than seeing them on a photo. Seeing a butterfly in our garden rather than watching them on video. Yes, there's a lot of things you learn in the internet but there's more too outside the internet.

I agree with you. I feel more at peace when I go outside and enjoy the presence of my loved ones and real happy moments with them.
