The Problem with Generic Meds

I take pills, several different kinds. Most are because I inherited the gift of high blood pressure from both of my parents.
My insurance pays for generic pills, which is fine. The problem is that the drugstore keeps changing the pills. Every new bottle has meds of a different color and shape than the one before. Sometimes, there are several different kinds in the same bottle.
If I drop a pill or mix anything up, I have no idea what I am taking or which bottle it belongs in. It is no wonder that people take the wrong stuff at the wrong time or take too much of one thing and skip another.
Does anyone else have this generic medication problem? Am I the only one?

I would have started buying the generic meds for BP because they are cheaper but my daughter insisted that I buy the branded one.

@akalinus If that's the case, then you can't do otherwise :) I guess your generic meds are effective as well unlike those in underdeveloped countries which doubtedly may only be made mostly from flour according to some people.

@akalinus Right. Instead of curing the patient, sometimes it aggravates the illness. I have to bid good night for now, Ms. Jo. I'll be up at 4AM for our morning walk. Good night :)

I got a new kind of pill for one of my blood pressure meds. It was always a shade of deep yellow and oval in shape. The last time, it is big round horse pills. I have had a headache since I started taking them. I wonder if it is really the same thing or is it really for horses.

I don't have that issue, but I have to special order particular generics through my pharmacy pretty regularly. Some work great for me, others do nothing or I have bad reactions to them for some reason. Doesn't matter that they supposedly all have the exact same active ingredients. My body's too particular about the inactive ingredients!

I have noticed that a few times, thankfully there's usually a warning on the bottle.

Sometimes I have a pill in my hand. It is left over from the month before but I tossed those bottles and the new bottle is filled with something different. I am reading the descriptions on all the bottles and can't find it because it is gone. So, I have no idea what pill it is.

I have hypertension, too, and take generic meds for it. It's been a long time since they changed it, I think it was last year around this time I noticed the pills were different looking and a different color. I called just in case they gave me the wrong meds and they told me the manufacturer had changed the shape and color.
Once I week I fill up a pill container. 7 days, Monday thru Sunday, AM and PM, different compartments. You can get one at the dollar store. If I drop one, it doesn't matter because I know I'm supposed to be taking it and it doesn't matter what it is. Of course, I just take the BP meds morning and night and one vitamin D capsule and one aspirin so I don't have to worry about a lot of pills. Your situation might be different.
My bp is very strange. I quit smoking and now it's high all the time in spite of the medicine.

No, you aren't the only one. It happens to me all the time too. I take quite a lot of meds and it does concern me at times when I notice one of my pills is different because I wonder if it is the right medication. Most of the time the pharmacist will tell me that the med is different this time but when they don't tell me, I usually give them a call.

LOL! Heck yes, I have the same problem with my medications! That is the reason my daughter lays out my meds for me every morning! I have accidentally taken an overdose three times! (Part of the problem was because there are so many different shapes and colors in my med bottles! I'd drop a bottle and not know which bottle I dropped, so would end up with two or more pills of the same thing, just different shape or color! It made me sicker than a dog every time, too! The other part of the problem I have is that my pain pills make me forget things! I couldn't remember if I took the dad burned pills or not!)
I am just glad my daughter is willing to lay the meds out for me every morning!
I really hope you find a solution as good as ours to this problem, Jo Ann!

I do hope that you are having some relief from your high blood pressure. I've never taken the doctor's prescription for my high bp since 3 years ago up to the present. I've taken the alternative path for my own health. Daily Vit. C (iherb) has proven to better my condition.
