Day 146 Psalm 125 Psalm 125:1 < They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abides forever. 2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even forever. 3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. 4 Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts. 5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel. Do you look for guarantees in life? We write contracts, we make vows, but rarely do either last to the end. Somewhere someone will do something and businesses are dissolved, partnerships ruined, marriages end in divorce. When we see something that has stood the test of time, we tend to celebrate it, and hope it continues to thrive. The psalmist knew of one guarantee that would stand the test of time and that was putting our trust in God and not wavering from that trust. Even he saw there was no guarantee because people tend to stray from God and follow after their sinful flesh. Yet, for all their sinful and wicked ways, those who kept firm with God, found their eternal rest in him. As Christians, we have the opportunity to find our rest in Jesus Christ as well. All we need to do is trust him and he will take care of us, now and through eternity. However, because man is sinful, and we find ourselves sliding in our faith from time to time, it isn’t easy to keep the faith, and some have slid back into their former life. For them there is no hope, they have lost their salvation. Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (KJV) That is extreme, and is more than backsliding but denying the gift of salvation that once was theirs and taking up their former ways. Turning their backs completely on God. Yet, for those who are only backslid, there is still hope for them to come back to the cross, back to their faith, and embrace it once again. These are the ones we pray for, children, family members, acquaintances who still have the knowledge and have not gone so far astray there is no hope. We pray they will return the their former love. Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things says he that holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6 But this thou hast, that thou hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. As long as we draw breath we have hope, and hope that has not died but trusts in the living God and Jesus Christ our Savior, will endure to the end and we will be ever with the Lord into eternity. It’s time we put our trust in God, knowing he will take care of us, and will lead us to life eternal. Let’s pray: Father, help me trust you in everything for my life, never doubting or turning away from you and the promise of eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
