I just read a very interesting article about Fu Yuanhui. She's an Olympic swimmer from China that touched upon a taboo subject when she mentioned that she actually started her period and had to compete in the women's 4x100 meter medley relay race while on it. It was very interesting to learn that many Chinese were actually commenting things like "how could she swim while on her period?" and "why wasn't there any blood in the pool?". What is your view on the matter? Do you think it's taboo to talk about periods? I think she gave a great interview and shed light on the fact that just because a women is on her period doesn't mean she can't do things!

I think so. In the article I was reading there were some people confused on how a women could be in a pool without it getting all over the pool!

I think it all depends on the society where one is raised into. Maybe in China it is a taboo subject and even here in North America it was considered a taboo subject prior to the 1950's approximately. My parents certainly never mentioned it and my mother had a repulsion in explaining it to me in my young days.

My parents never explained any of that to me. I learned everything from school in the health classes.

Some aren't educated on knowing our menstrual cycles :)

I feel bad that she had too, not fun. But the worry about blood in the pool tells me that some people need more education about the female body and how things work!

Not a taboo subject here. I grew up with a mum and 2 sisters so I've heard all about it some countries are still male dominated and the men in those places don't know much about womens things

I'm lucky that my boyfriend has two sisters because I can talk about those things and he's not bothered by it.

I don't believe that it is a taboo subject. It is just a fact of life and something that every woman experiences. You can do anything you want even if you are on your period, that should not effect your performance. Of course some people have worse periods then other especially when it comes to cramping and flow.

Yes, there are different cases. For an example, sometimes I HAVE to take a pain pill or I just can't function. Luckily there's enough modern medicine out there to help you while you're on it.
