Living or Just Existing?

I have a light schedule today at work. So I decided to watch the movie that my boyfriend sent to me . It was "Tuesdays with Morrie." While doing some paperwork too I heard Morrie, spoke to his student that once we learn how to die, we will learn how to live." I reflected on it for a while. For me, it seems that Morrie just wanted to tell his student that many just appreciate life once they are already on their deathbed. If people just keep on working to make ends meet and having no time for enjoyment, then they are just existing and not living at all. So, it is like live to survive and not to enjoy life. I think this is one of the movies that I will consider great for watching. Are you living or are you just existing?

Currently I'm existing and that's actually good for me as a few years ago I came close to not existing. Living is the goal but I'd take existing over not existing any day.

It seems like when we use the word existing, we are not enjoying life at all?

@annierose I sort of agree but not exactly. To me existing means you're keeping your head above water, getting the bills paid etc. That isn't exactly enjoyment but when you've come up from a totally sh1t life existing is good. Living, I'd agree, is more enjoying life but everyone will have a different interpretation of living and existing in my opinion.

@Mike197602 Perhaps. We are entitled on our own opinion and there is no right or wrong opinion for me.

It is great to hear that @shubu3! I missed my campus life. My friends are all now busy especially those who already have their own family.

I guess that I lived a fuller life when my husband was alive. But I am still trying to do my best in spite of age and illness. I am living and I enjoy each day.

@marguicha Good to hear that! I think my mom feels the same way. During weekdays, all of us will be out and she will be alone in the house. I think it is a very lonely situation.

That should be the way we have to live our life. We will just live once here in this planet. So better to leave this planet without regrets at all, which I think doesn't really happen.

Most people have no choice, if you have no money, you have to work hard and unfortunately the time to enjoy life for them is very limited.

I think simple bonding with family members would be enough. What do you think?

@annierose No, I think that it's not enough, we need to live our own life. The family is important, but we need to be free and independent to fully live.

It seems we cannot have the best of both worlds? Is it really impossible?

@magallon I can understand you. They said that the importance of something or someone most of the time is only felt when that thing or person is already gone. I learned it the hard way when we lost my father. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes with my mom.

@annierose Not at the same time of course. SometimesI feel like I am living but not existing. There are times that I feel that i exist but not living. Why? Because , sometimes, I know that I am here alive and kicking but seems not noticed by others. As if they can't see my importance. Then, I know I exist but feeling not productive, as if I am not living.

Are you devoting your time in the gym now? Or is it something different?

We are trying to enjoy our lives as we go along. I guess it is a bit easier to do this now we have retired.

People give different meaning out of those words.I have heard some of my professors nagging students that they are not existing if they are not doing their responsibilities as students.
