Major Withdrawals

At about four yesterday evening my internet went down. After doing all the trouble shooting at home and unplugging, replugging computers, printers, and modems and routers I gave up and called my company. It turns out that something was broken, they did not know what, but the whole area was without internet, phone and television if they subscribe to it. When I called at seven they had just figured out the problem and repair parts were on the way. I was bummed. I did not get to come here and interact. I did not make my swagbucks goal, I missed out on some other things, but I fully expected to wake up to a working internet. NOT!!!! Just about five minutes ago it finally came back on. I did not know how badly I would react to not having any connection for twenty hours. If I chose not to be online for twenty hours, it would have been a different story. I could not be online, so I really felt deprived. We shall see how long it takes for me to get caught up.

mine went down last night too, my company has a thing when you call from a number associated with your account and there is a known outage, the automated voice tells you so

It was set up that way today. Not even from a phone associated, because I do not have wireless through them. It is just the introductory recoring to let you know and save time if that is why you are calling.

@GardenGerty oh I dont have their phone either, just that the number on my account IS my cell so when I call from that number, it knows who I am, and if there is an outage where my services are, it tells me that pretty early on

If you'd told me 3 years ago that I would feel deprived if I had no internet, I'd have had a job believing you. How times change, and I quite understand your feelings.

The internet has obviously corrupted you. We are so glad you are here, though.

I felt very isolated while the internet was down. It is good to begin getting back in the swing of things.

When my electricity went out last winter, it was the internet that I missed the most.

Once I found out it was their problem and not something that would be expensive for me to fix it was much better, but I missed you guys.

Since our outage was area wide I could not even go down to the library and I had things to get done here so I could not go out of town to find a connection.

Yes, I find myself totally unable to do without something I never even knew existed twenty one years ago, lol. Totally dependent on the internet. Yeh if you had wanted to be somewhere else on vacation or something, it would be your CHOICE not to be on the internet. But your having to be offline is a different ball o wax. I'm glad you got it back!

On vacation I usually have a laptop, but still spend very little time online. You are right though, it would be by choice.

It has gotten to where people are so dependent on it that it is a real challenge to have an entire area go out.
