Pulled up Duolingo again!

It has been some time since I was on the site and I was a little nervous that I might have forgotten all the French that I had mastered, but apparently not. I'm not rushing forward to learn anything new though. I'm going to take it slow. The site is good that way. They alert you to material that you haven't looked at in a while. If you don't have anyone to practice on, it's really helpful that way! Are you studying any language at the moment?

My only concern is the fact that I can read French better than I can understand the spoken word...

@Hate2Iron This is my worry too. And I don't know if they can understand me very well either.

I'm learning German, and have been doing it for a while. The review function is great, but I wouldn't use Duolingo as my only resource for Duolingo. Are you using anything else?

No, what would you suggest? Actually I have a lot of books, but I think that I need something a bit more hands on.

I haven't found any sites that have done grammar, but there are plenty where you can find teachers. I've heard a lot of great things about iTalki.

I never got very far with it, but I think LiveMocha does some grammar stuff. You've also got native speakers correcting your lessons (for free, as long as you are okay grading a few English lessons), so it seems like a good program.

My son is taking French classes - he seems to enjoy learning the language so far...

@JudyEv The class organizes some get together outside the classroom from time to time when they socialize in French - so he gets to actually communicate in French and not only learning in a classroom setting...

How do you keep the two languages separate? I would be mixing them up constantly I think!

@Hate2Iron I only have schoolgirl French and German. I much prefer French but we were in Germany last and now I can hardly remember any French. I'm sure it will come back after a few visits to Duolingo - and I have phrase books etc too.

Before we went to Europe last year, I tried to brush up on both my English and German using Duolingo. I found it a very useful site.
