I will never see blackberries the same way again

Blackberries are one of the most delicious fruits out there. They were expensive in my country but I know they were cheap in the US and Europe. They make delicious jellies,Jams, cheesecakes and juice. That is why they were popular. The video below shows a revelation from a Sheep farmer from Ireland. I know when you say carnivorous plants , the first thing in your mind the Venus fly traps. Fanged flowers that eats insects. Bramble or Blackberries dont have fangs but they have an appetite for 4 legged hoofed animals like sheeps and deers. On this video, the Sheep farmer is saving his sheep from being eaten by the Blackberry. The Blackberry plant seemed to form snares that traps sheeps and the sheep will get stuck and die of hunger. Once the deer died, it will turn into gross looking fertilizer for the Blackberries.
At this time of year we have to start being extra watchful – our lambs are vulnerable to attack from this silent killer.. Not everyone is going to agree with...

I wonder if Vegans will still consider blackberries as vegan food?

I saw the video and decided it was not the blackberry´s fault. There should be ab adequate fence, it you want to keep sheep safe. I also noticed that the shepherd did not use gloves or an adequate pair of scissors to cut the vines.

Yes, I agree with you. It's not blackberry's fault. Do you know durian? A fruit with lots of thorns. I am just thinking how if someone or some animals passes by when a durian drops from the tree. I don't even want to imagine that.

In the wild though blackberries had killed many deers and wild goats. But yeah he should make more fences so his sheep wont get trapped by blackberries over and over again. He is doing sheep rescue on a regular basis.

Oh my I had no idea that the brambles will tangle up the animals.. It must be painful for them if they do not get saved from them. Though I love blackberries, I did not know they were so ferocious.

Have you seen those thorns? Being caught by those could be painful to a deer because unlike sheep they don't have thick fur to protect them

A friend of mine has a lot of blackberry bushes on her property. It's nice to have them, but she has to pay someone to keep everything maintained these days. I love blackberries, even just in a bowl with milk and sugar. Thans for sharing this. I would hate to get trapped in the things, wow. Poor animals.

its a good thing the Blackberries never tried to plot revenge againts us and trap us with their natural snares. They have an appetite for small hoofed animals like sheep because they were the usual victims of blackberries. I think if I will have them on my garden, i will regularly trim there so they wont end up making snares for my cats and dogs.

I always keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency. Actually, I carry a pocket knife.

@TheHorse Yeah a Pocket knife will be very handy and practical against vines.

@LadyDuck I think we must always have knife or a machete if we are going to go to a Forrest.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I cannot believe that this plant is so dangerous. While I was watching the videos, on the right of the screen, I have seen other interesting videos about dangerous plants.

well how sad is that? why on earth would a berry plant want to kill animals? I do like eating blackberries but now I'm quite unhappy about the plant.

They want a sustainable source of fertilizer. This wont stop me from eating them though.

@CRK109 I think most farmed blackberries are not able to kill animals. Only the wild ones.

I did not know how blackberry plants are. It does look dangerous not only for the animals, but for young kids too. Yes, I only thought of Venus fly traps, but not other plants that can kill an animal.

Malaysian Pitcher Plants can kill birds and mice. This one had caught a frog. I actually want to have a pitcher plant so I can get rid of mosquitos and flies.

That's sad. I think farmers need fences or walls to protect their flocks.

Brambles grow wild very quickly. They come over the fence, under the fence and even through the fence from next door and I have to cut them back all the time.

No wonder many animals get trapped on them if they were wild. I never thought a delicious fruit is from a carnivorous plant that kills animals. These plants acts like they have mind of their own because they can make snares.

I have a ton of black berry bushes on around my house. I collected a bunch of them this summer and made some blackberry jam. It taste great on some toast or on a pb&bj sandwich. I have gotten caught by the thorns of these bushes before and they sure do hurt.

Just imagine the pain a sheep killed by blackberries had go through. I do want to plant them but they dont grow in the tropics unless I have a green house were temperate fruits can grow.
