Smoking in public places has been banned in most of the countries and also in India. Yet in India in cities like Kolkata, old and young walk smoking through the streets due to which a lot of pedestrians walking through the street are exposed to passive smoking. Is this justified? Should not the state administration take this health hazard seriously and take some action?

It ought to be.Already the atmosphere is much polluted due to unwanted & unregulated carbon emissions from industries, vehicles, refriegerators, air conditioners along with other deadly green house gases that have taken a serious toll on our health. Therefore smoking in streets should immediately be banned to help make our city of joy a better place to live in.

I'm a non smoker and know second hand smoke isn't good for my health. I think its hard to ban anything, as there will be people angry when its banned. Recently, the state I live in banned plastic one use bags and that caused some people to yell in stores that the stores shouldn't tell them what to do and charge them for bags. The people of this state voted in November and it passed in a very close vote. Right now, my area is having a lot of discussions about smoking and golf courses. I don't golf, as chasing after the little ball isn't for me. I tried a couple times and balls just kept going into the water. I didn't see anyone smoking, so don't know, if its an issue here.

People should change their attitude. They have no right to harm others where health is concerned.

Although i am for what you said, they should be stricter on smoke belchers, that little stick on open grounds is no match against defective engines and exhaust pipes

That is something that will be hard to enforce. It is a stinking, nasty habit. I know. I quit years ago.

I really hate it when someone smokes in a public transport. That is the reason why I bought a car even though it almost puts me of dept.
