Car Fixed

It has been a long day. I took the car in for noon and it was finally finished just after 3. So was I as I sat in the sun instead of the freezing air conditioning. I have a sunburn all over my legs, arms and my feet where the slats on my sandals didn't cover my feet. I think I got a good dose of Vitamin D today. As soon as I turned the key in the ignition, I could tell the difference in the car. It's quieter. My friend, whose significant other is a truck driver and knows a thing or two about cars, and is also the one who helped me with my move, looked at the estimate for the work to be done and thought they were ripping me off because of the price of the work being done. She agreed with the O2 sensor price and the Fuel System price, but the spark plugs and wires were too much. After talking to her for a bit I realized that I just put in new spark plugs and wires last year at this time when my older son did my tune-up and oil change. I really didn't need it done again. So when I arrived at the shop, I told her I didn't need that work done as it was done last year and she didn't argue, took that off the estimate and they did the rest of the work. Now everything is working well, and hopefully I won't need anymore work done until I need an oil change in a few thousand miles. So that has been my day. My son is at work, LSU and Wisconsin are playing at Lambeau, and I'm here trying to work on Freedom's Cry. Now that I am basically settled - moved in, but still have a lot of boxes to take care of, I'm going to divide my time between here and my book. I plan on writing a minimum of 5000 words a day and spend a minimum of 3 hours on myLot. That will give me time to get my workout done in the pool and other things as well, instead of sitting here all day long. I won't lose weight sitting here all day long. So how was your day? See you soon as I work on notifications before going back to my book. Thanks for reading.

Yes that was a good thing, and now that I have the car fixed and only needed one wire replaced not the whole set, I'm feeling good about the car.

Nice to have that out of the way. I used to get my car in annually. I had excellent mechanics that I had had for 20 years or more. So when they told me about one repair that could save me money later(it was something unique to the make of car I had) I went for it. Had it done with my tax return. Car ran well for many years. Last year I decided I wouldn't drive it anymore and retired my driving. Glad I did because a few months later I was diagnosed with a cataract. It's been a good day.

@celticeagle I'm sorry it's getting worse. I hate that you have to wait until you can barely see before they will do surgery. I'm at beginning stages of it.

I'm glad you had good mechanics for your car who looked out for you. I wonder how much longer I'll be driving as I was just diagnosed with cataracts, but it's not bad yet.

my day had ups and downs. I got tired of someone -cough- wasting the day (since he stayed up all night to play games with people online), I wanted to Go and do something. I finally decided that I wasnt going to do that anymore. Went and got what I wanted to eat, he got whatever was leftover and I didnt wait for him, it was cold by the time he got up. not my problem. I went to a movie alone, went shopping and spent a gift card I'd had since christmas (got a candle and it smells AMAZING), and got ice cream. and no, I didnt bring home dinner either. not my problem. Trying the logical consequences thing. I didnt enjoy the time out as much as I would have had I been with someone, but I had fun, and it was MUCH better than sitting at home being bored and miserable

I'm glad you took that initiative and went to the movie alone. It is more fun to go with someone, but it's also freeing knowing you don't need to always be with someone else to have an enjoyable time.

It's good you have a friend who's knowledgeable in car work pricing, otherwise, you would have been ripped off. My mechanic charges me fairly but I always give him some tip because he has been taking good car of my car for the past 18 years. At 18 years, my car still looks new and in a very good condition. My daughter asked me though to sell it as she wants to give us a new car. At the moment I'm scouting for the dealership that could me a fair price for the car that we want - an Isuzu MUX.

It's good you've been able to keep the car that long in good condition. I hope you can find a good deal on a new car.

@just4him I already got a good deal on the new car, Mrs. Valeria. I'm hoping I'll have a good sale too of our old car and I hope the new owner will take good care of it.

@sunrisefan That's great! I hope the new owner will too, but you can't control what others will do.

I am glad your friend looked at the estimate, it is not uncommon for some shops to inflate the estimates.

It wasn't that it was inflated, but they were going to use the most expensive parts for the work. It's good it turned out not to be needed except for one wire that had been worn almost bare by the fan. That's now fixed too, and they gave me a discount because I've been in there so often recently.

I hate waiting around when we get one of our cars fixed. But my the time you leave and go back you might as well stay there. I hope the car runs really good now for a long time.

My day was uneventful, which I guess I can look at as a positive. My daughter and I are going over to take my dad some brownies in the nursing home tomorrow. It will be his 98th birthday. I hope your book is coming right along! You have been so busy with your move, I know.

I haven't had time to get back to my book, but I will soon as I really want to get it finished and have this series finished and move on to other projects.

I took it back for the final fix yesterday. It only needed one wire instead of the whole set, so that was good and now the check engine light is off and hopefully for good.

I'm so happy with my two hours in the pool every morning. Then since I'm so far behind on these notifications still, I do one days worth then get boxes unpacked and put away. I sorted them to the rooms they belong yesterday, getting most of the living room done. Today I'll get those boxes unpacked that I put here in the office and try to finish clearing out the living room before I come back here to work a bit more.

Thank you. They even gave me a discount yesterday when I took it back yesterday for one final fix. I only needed one wire fixed - it was rubbed almost bare by the fan. The bad thing about that is you can't just buy one wire, you have to buy the set. But they only replaced the one wire.

It's good you got a reduction on the bill. We have a good mechanic now and trust him implicitly. That's a good feeling too.
