The new additions to my postcard collection are magnificent, and I love receiving lovely gift gestures that might be simple to some people, but that mean the world to me. Malu has outdone herself and her kind gestures are much appreciated. Thank you for the note on the back of the Grand Canal card depicting the Hotel Regina which still stands today. Did you know that it was used for a scene in the movie "The Talented Mr. Ripley" in which Matt Damon acted. Yes dear Malu . . to answer your question, I have been in a gondola and that I shall tell you about that in another post. My hubby and I are both delighted with the arrival of the lovely 'Venice' Postcards from yesterday - they are dated as far back as 1950's - I was not even born yet which makes them antique like my furniture and will fit most perfectly my decorated walls. They a delight on the eyes and look more like little paintings done in water pastels than postcards. I need not give any of you History of Venice, the place is most definitely a MUST to see in ones lifetime. Luckily I have been there twice . . . Have you ever received simple yet wonderful things that make you appreciate the givers kind gestures? It comes along once in a while - but it sure feels good! Two postcards and note the wonderful wavy edge on the one - and of course a beautiful VENEZIA stamp “Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.” ~ George Sand

@Inlemay I was just wondering because I thought Malu is in Germany... But she could have been in Italy and I just didn't know about it...

I have been in a gondola as well and the scene depicted above can be easily recognised today. Venice is the type of place that it would be a crime to alter.

@Inlemay An ex work colleague of mine got married a few years ago and went to Venice for the honeymoon. I was totally appalled when she told me that they did not bother with a gondola ride because it was too expensive. If they could not afford a gondola then it would have been better to go somewhere else.

@Asylum Oh they will be sorry one day - Gondoliers are becoming extinct and I would have paid any price to ride in one - not sure if it is ride or sail but I loved it totally

The pictures on the postcards are amazing. So old, and yet so well preserved. It sure is a treasure to a collector such as yourself. More than that, it bears testimony to the decades it has seen pass in history. How wonderful!

Yes indeed. They're called gifts. You receive them. You cherish them. You enjoy. You continue to enjoy your vacations. You be blessed.
