Cutting Trees in our Complex

I got a big surprise when I walked down to our mail box this morning. I had heard what sounded like a power saw earlier but thought the electric company might be trimming under power lines as they do every so often. But there were trees already cut down, trimmed and stacked up. I looked closely at the trees, thinking they must have been rotten, but no. The logs looked perfectly sound. Then, I noticed all the trees in front of apartments on our side of parking were marked with red paint. They plan to cut those from the looks of it. I hate to see our beautiful trees cut. It's the main thing that drew us to this complex. I'm hoping trees on the other side of parking will be left. They are big beautiful oaks and it will look terrible without them. If the trees at the back that shades our deck aren't spared we will most likely move and I don't like moving.

That isn't it, no power lines are near these trees. They line the parking lot in front of two lines of apartments. It was always nice and shady with these big tall trees. the only thing I can think of is they might be afraid the trees might fall on the apartments in high winds.

That is sad. I always hate to see trees being cut down. I hope they don't touch the oaks.

That's what they're cutting. Maybe they are only thinning them. I haven't been out today but I hear the saws going.

No explanation given to the people who live there? Doesn't seem right to me.

I wonder why they are doing it if they weren't unsafe.

I can't imagine why, but next time I go by the leasing office I will ask. I can't see any reason at all other than being afraid one might fall during high winds.

I'm surprised that they gave no notice for such a major job on the trees. I hope they don't ruin the place for you.

We didn't have a clue until I went to the mail box and saw them cutting down perfectly good trees.

@RubyHawk - I remember when we lived in Texas some developers cut down the beautiful old trees to build a new subdivision in an area called Willow Bend. I cried when I saw the trees were down ... and I didn't even live near those trees.

@RubyHawk - I know exactly what you mean about the trees. I could never understand why they did not incorporate the row of trees into the subdivision they were building. It was very upsetting to me!

@DeborahDiane When building subdivisions here every tree or bush standing is cut to the ground. What a waste, these homes could have beautiful trees growing around them instead of dirt.

It's heart breaking, why anyone would cut down perfectly good trees is beyond me. Here there is no room for more buildings so that isn't why they are doing it.

Who says what is safe or not? I don“t see a reason to cut them if they were healthy.

I don't either, if it were up to me they wouldn't be cut.

what a stupid thing for them to do. Our planet needs trees especially mature trees. I have to wonder about companies when they have so little regard for OUR planet.

So do I. Without our trees there will be less oxygen and more pollution.

@rebelann No, it's the owners orders. We can't do anything.

Do you know the reason why they are cutting healthy trees? It's a shame to cut trees, they help to clean the air.

@RubyHawk Unfortunately most of the time they do not have good reasons, the cut the trees just to be safe and sure that they will not fall in case of strong wind.

Yes, trees provide the oxygen we breath. I hope they have a good reason.

@LadyDuck I think that's the case here. Damage to the apartments would be expensive

They just cut those trees like that? That's sad.....over here people cut trees all of a sudden in their garden too, for "clearing the view". I mean, if you want, you shave off some branches, but the whole tree? and yeah, I love the shade provided by the trees too. After they cut the tree beside our apartment, all the sunlight enters in summer and it heats up too much.

@RubyHawk exactly. These important things people just don't get. This process of indiscriminate tree felling is going to turn on us in a bad way in the future.

that's what will happen to the people in the front apartments. Their AC bill go up and sun will shine in their windows. Trimming helps trees but cutting them to the ground unless they are rotten is not good.

I'm surprised they are cutting down perfectly good trees. I hope they spare those that shade your deck so you won't need to move.

I hope so. Our deck is on the back facing a grove of trees. Surely they wont bother those.

So do I, it's such a waste. The people who live in the front apartments will bear the brunt of it.
