The Little Free Library

One of the cool things about Manitou is a system called the Little Free Library.
There are several small boxes located around Downtown Manitou and they have books in them. Find something you want to read? Take it. Have a book you no longer want? Leave it.
I just left two Matt Helm books in the one in front of the real library. Hopefully, someone will read them.

it's a great idea for those who want to reduce their home library, but don't have the time or interest in selling them. they're donating them in a way.

I know of five of them, but I'd bet there are more around town.

@LoriAMoore When I do thin out the number of books I have, I take them to the charity shop where someone else can enjoy them and the charity gets a few pence out of the deal

It's definitely a great idea. More people should take advantage.

A free shelf at the laundry is good. More places should do that. Even our local liquor store has a basket of books to take or leave!

@teamfreak16 People put clothes and household goods on the shelf. Food sometimes, too. It is anonymous and there are no questions asked. I have put food on it, too.

That's also a great idea. I think these are probably a library thing.

It also seems to be a popular idea, as well. Looks like they do this all over the place.

It sounds like you live in a great community! That is really awesome. People leave books on the benches in front of our library. I used to wait for the bus there sometimes and read on the books, it was nice living close to the library. Now I never go, but we go to a lot of used book and thrift stores.

That's true, these are mostly paperback books that have gotten a lot of use.

Not everyone will respect the books like they should be.
