Big Band Music

I will never willingly give up my Contemporary Christian Music, but since my mother-in-law moved in with us, I starting to appreciate big band music. The music from the 30’s and 40’s is a lot different than the music we listen to today. Instead of a band behind the singer, it’s a full orchestra. It’s upbeat and easy to dance to. I find myself dancing along as I’m dusting or straightening up the living room. It’s rather enjoyable, but the minute I’m alone I switch it back to MY music. We all have our preferences. The photo is a picture of one of the hundreds of albums found when we were going through my mother’s things after she passed away.

I can handle big band a lot easier than I can handle classical, but like you I will never give up my Contemporary Christian music. That really is music to my ears and soul.

@BettyB I usually listen in my car whenever I go anywhere. I keep forgetting I live alone and can listen to it in the house whenever I want. I could before too, but I was always courteous to my son. I love KLOVE, but it doesn't come in very well in the house. It comes in great in the car. There is another okay Christian station I listen to in the house.

I prefer the Christian Contemporary as well. It's what I listen to while working on the computer, gardening, cleaning house... Switching to the Big Band hasn't been easy. At least I can listen to my music in my computer room

This summer I organized them, recorded all the numbers, and matched them with photos of the albums. The ball is now in my younger brother's court. He's going to see if we ended up with anything worthwhile.

I myself wonder what I will do with those vinyls when I move to a smaller house.

@JolietJake I know you would. I would give them all to you. Free. But shipping is the problem. I don´t know if there still is a cheaper shipping that takes longer time.

It's hard getting rid of things. We're still working on it and we moved into a smaller place a year and a half ago.

Unfortunately none of us have a means of playing the old albums. My brother is going to see about selling the lot. I when my mother in law wants to listen to music, I turn on the Big Band Chanel on Direct TV.

I enjoy it, mostly but there's a little too much trumpet mixed it. It grated after awhile.

I love big band music, swing, and "western swing" that migrated to country music from swing. I love having my iPod on shuffle, because it'll go from "Where No One Stands Alone" to "London Calling" to "Minor Swing" to "Dancing Queen" without me doing a thing!

I don't mind the old big band sounds either, but in the end I prefer my own music as well.

My father had plenty of vinyls like this one. I suppose they are still in my Mom house.

It's very uplifting music. Easy to see why it was so popular in the 30s and 40s when people really did need things to life their spirits.
