Ever thought of quitting on something?

It has been a saying that "Winners never quit and quitters never win!" Do you believe in it? Have you ever experienced to quit on something even once just because after giving your all to something, it still not considered enough? Lately, I have been disturbed of thinking of filing a resignation in my teaching career in high school. It does not mean that I don't love my job. I love teaching. That is what I have been doing for almost 6 six years now. But as I have noticed, the younger generation becomes worst as time goes by. What is more annoying is that some parents do not even care for their kids. I have been feeling sad that there is no single day that I will not preach to those kids. No matter what approach I make whether make friends with them or be strict with them, nothing seems to work. The most heartbreaking part being in a public high school is that when a student fails, the blame is always on the teachers. I feel hopeless already that I am thinking of applying for a full-time job in a university where students are willing to learn.

I can understand your frustration. When I was going to school, if my parents found out I'd been in trouble with a teacher I would be in more trouble at home but nowadays parents are more likely to side with the child against the teacher. It must be very disheartening.

True! Sometimes I want to cry. When teachers call for a meeting with the parents who have kids struggling in school, those parents will have many excuses not to attend a meeting. On the other hand, when it is already the end of the class and they found out their kids did not make it, that will be the time they will go to the school to beg for teachers to pass their kids.

@annierose It really sounds like you might be happier in a situation where the students want to learn.

@JudyEv It is true. I hope the government does not force us to pass the students who really do not deserve to get a passing grade despite all the exerted efforts we made to help them.

I would say yes, there are times I am really in the brink of quitting. But I am a runner and I'm always been into this kind of situation. I thought I would quit but my mind said to continue to run which I did. Then I crossed the finish line.

I feel incompetent as a teacher to these students as I feel I cannot finish a lesson without preaching just for them to be quiet. I think I have been playing like a nagging mom to them at times. I tried to be calm but they are abusing it. Being quiet, looking them in their eyes or making a sign no longer work. I know if I do the other way around, they will be quiet but it is like I am abusing myself. I know it is not good for my health.

I guess i would too, if i were in your stead . Your job is at risk because the blame will always be on teached when student fails . That's unfair .

I wonder why the authorities cannot understand that. They should know more than us I guess.

@SIMPLYD Sometimes I think they should have a first hand experience with the kids we are teaching now so they will be more kinder.

Sometimes we have to quit something, when the harmful is bigger than profit.

My teaching job in high school always gives me stress. I am also worried about my voice. I know I have been abusing it. I have been teaching a big number of students in one class. That is quite frustrating.

I've always thought that teaching is such a difficult job, and I understand your feelings. It would be a relief for you to teach people that actually wanted to learn.

If I am not happy I quit immediately I prefer to plant "camote" than work with demons around me

I wish I could quit immediately but I was worried about the consequences. Finding a stable job is not easy. Aside from that, my mom is getting old and has been experiencing body pains. I always want to be a good provider in the house. So, if I am going to quite on my job, I need to make sure there is an immediate job waiting for me where I can earn a good income too.

Teaching is a really hard job almost a calling, and it is not for everyone. I used to teach myself. I think you should do what you think will make you happy.

I teach because I want to travel. That was my thinking before I took up the course in Education. It is not because I really want to teach but I want the chance it will give to me abroad. I have other jobs that I want to learn. I want to write. I also want to be a freelancer so I can travel anywhere without a problem.

I think it is better for me to teach in a university as a full-time instructor. But I guess it is not advisable to do it by next year. I have to wait for one more year I guess before I can transfer in Senior High School or be a permanent full-time instructor in the university.

You will still be teaching. And always remember you are making a difference even though it may not show:)
