A wretched day with horrible unexpected high billing from the Inland Revenue in the form of a council tax demand for £734.22 payable £147.00 at a time starting on October 1st.
Querying it, I find that with rebates it reduces to about £85 a month for me but that is still a crippling amount, especially with my rent not yet fully processed. I am looking at options for further reductions or this could well tip my finances over the edge.
I went to the job club, who advised me of the reductions I can certainly get. I’m going to see the council tomorrow now.

@Jessicalynnt that's why our government wonders why we have so many people homeless in the UK

@Asylum I remember the protests over Poll Tax and this amounts to being just as bad but no one does anything

@arthurchappell It is the same, but under a different title. The original Rates were assessed according to house value, whereas Council Tax is simply organised into bands. As a result the average person pays more while for someone with vast luxurious property saves a great amount of money.

Sounds like us. Me and my hubby dread several months during the year. These are the months when the dreaded portion of the land tax has to be paid and once it is paid for the rest of the month it's really pinching pennies. Good luck to you.
