I Deleted my Discussion

I had a good discussion going yesterday. There was a mystery figure someone videotaped on top of the beam of light at Ground Zero, the site of the Twin Towers terror attack on 911. The first couple of responders to my post said there was malware when they clicked the link. I decided that in the best interests of others, I would delete this post. It makes me sad that people are prone to messing up the Internet in hurtful ways. Have you ever posted a discussion with a bad link?

no but I know it does happen and those people who do that should be ashamed of themselves.

Some people dedicate their lives to making others miserable. If only they used their talents for good, it would be a better world.

Not that I'm aware of, but it's disappointing how many people want to cause harm on the internet. Think if they used their talents in positive ways. I'm sorry that happened to you.

No, I have never used a link in a post. It is hard these days t trust just about anything on the Internet.

It is hard to know what to trust. The picture went viral so I thought it was good. It was good when I posted. I put it on my FB page and followed the link from there and it was good. Someone attached malware to the version I posted here. When I found out, I took care of it to protect my readers.

It is getting more difficult in this world where everyone seems intent on stealing, scamming, or catfishing.

I haven't posted a dodgy link as yet. You could have just edited and removed the link or added a different one rather than removing the whole thing. Maybe find a better link and re post it.

I thought about that but I would feel really bad if someone got their computer messed up. I downloaded something like that several years ago and had to buy a program to get rid of it all.

@Mike197602 I don't know. Is it copyrighted? It does mention the name of the person who took the video. I don't remember it. I don't want to be tromping on someone else's rights, here. He did say that was the only frame that had the figure and that it was not photoshopped or enhanced.

@akalinus you could just find a free to use picture of that beam of light and just use that rather than a link.

I have had that happen a couple of times. I think it is from internet glitches. My computer has been wonky for the last week or so.

There is a lot of stuff on the internet that is mysterious. It just happens. People are dishonest and sometimes something happens that you just can't explain.

You should always check a link before you include it in a post or anywhere else for that matter.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but good job you caught it before too much harm was done. Perhaps you could rewrite the discussion without using a link. I never post links, so it hasn't happened to me.

Knock on wood, so far I have never used a link to a picture I want to post on myLot, Jo Ann. I'm not real sure why you would do that, either. Sometimes I will paste a link into my story, but I usually do that because I am directing people to that story or something in particular..... Maybe that is what you mean? If I just want to show a picture, I just copy it and paste it into my discussion... if it is not copyrighted... which that one is!
Rich McCormack from Jersey City got more than he bargained for when he snapped the symbolic memorial in New York with many U.S. residents claiming the silhouette is a religious symbol.

@akalinus But he also made the mistake of putting it out on social media.... There have been judges who ruled against the owner of the copyright after doing that. Those judges have stated that if the owner cares no more for his copyrighted work than to place it in the public domain, then the public can use it. I wouldn't, but under that ruling, could.

I am sure it is copyrighted. He would be insane not to keep copyright.

@DaddyEvil I am not risking it for a few pennies here. He was there at the moment and got the picture. I give him credit for that. I know there are cyberpirates who think everything is their's for the taking. I have been the victim of this. I have found my articles from Helium on other sites under different names.

The people who responded were great. I am glad they told me there was a problem. The malware said that you had to do a computer update immediately. That would be scary to someone who did not not it was a scam.
