Day 16 Proverbs 6:6-11 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. 9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travels, and thy want as an armed man. How many of you work with people who do the bare minimum to keep their job and nothing more? How many people come strolling into work right on the dot or a few minutes late, but still within the allowable parameters? How many people hit the snooze button every morning not just once, but several times and then race out the door getting stuck in traffic? Solomon was not only a king, but he was a builder and planter. As such he saw the insect kingdom up close and observed them noting their labors in getting their work done and comparing it to the people in his kingdom who slacked on the job. As he observed the ways of ants and other insects he noted that they didn’t need supervisors or generals to get them to do their work, they did it because if they didn’t, they didn’t have any provisions for the winter months. He told us we are to take our example from the insect world and look ahead to our future, not slacking in our work, but being diligent to get it done so we would have enough for those days when work was slow or non-existent. Solomon said that when people slacked in their work, they saw poverty and ruin in their lives. As Christians we were admonished by Jesus to do as he did and that is to work while we have the time to do so. John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work. As Christians we have been set this time to accomplish the work Jesus gave us to do. Day here refers to the time now, before the Tribulation when the Antichrist will control the world. If we do our work with all diligence, as Solomon admonished, we will not be caught unaware when Jesus comes back for his church. We will be prepared, as the ant, who goes about gathering and making ready for the winter months when food would be scarce. Our preparation is to go and make disciples, teaching and baptizing them so they can go out and do the same. Jesus prepared his disciples for the day he would no longer be with them so they could go and tell everyone about what he did to save them from their sin. And so it has gone on for 2000+ years since Jesus left. We are preparing and working being diligent as wise workers for the kingdom of God so that when we hear the trump we will be ready as a bride for her husband and will go to be with Jesus. Are you diligent? Do you hit the snooze button? Do you expect someone else to carry your load? It’s time to get ready for the time is coming when night will fall on the world and the Antichrist will be in control. Let’s pray: Father, help me be diligent for you and your kingdom. Give me your vision for the lost and a word on my lips so that when the time comes and darkness falls, I will not be caught unaware but will be ready as a bride for her husband when Jesus comes back for his church. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 22 September 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
