I May be Off Line for a Day or More

We ordered a new router Wednesday but after hooking it up and everything it still wouldn't work. So my husband contacted our computer person and he came over. He gave us a router that did work off and on and he thinks the problem may be the modem. I will call our ISP tomorrow to see if they can reconfigure it. I'm hoping it will be an easy fix. I'm a week behind on notifications, but I'm okay until late Saturday at which time I'll lose the ones from last Saturday if it's not working yet.

Our ISp provider exchanged our older modem for a newer model and we paid nine dollars for a new router from them. We will have an extra five dollars per month to pay for that, but then that gives us tech assistance without further payment. I did try to get the other router working, but didn't do any better even with the newer modem. Rather than fighting with it, I'm chosing to send it back for a refund.

@MarshaMusselman I don't blame you, I would have done the same thing. I'm glad that it has all worked out okay.

I have no idea what you are talking about, since I don't know anything about computers. I had the Geek Squad come to our house last May. We needed a new hard drive. He returned to hook it up. Obviously, my husband knows less than I do, and that's not saying much. I hope things work out well and quickly for you.

My daughter and I went to the next city over to have our modem and router tested per a phone conversation. We found out they don't have the equipment to test anything at that office, but the sales clerk went ahead and replaced our modem anyway. They have routers available for 9.99 and then five dollars per month plus tech support as long as we use their router. In the past, I thought that was too expensive for our pocketbooks, but after having to replace the last two routers and then finding the new ones didn't last that long anyway and after having had to drive out of the area to switch them out I decided that maybe the extra cost would be worth it after all. I can probably use it as an expense on the business. I didn't have time to hook things up before work and even though someone in my family got it working, my husband said that after he watched a movie on tv and then went to get milk nothing was working when he returned. Not the internet, phone or TV. I told him that probably someone ran into something outside and that he needed to call their 800 number to find out or have them reset things. He was in bed when I returned home from work just a bit ago and I thought maybe it still wasn't working, but it started right up for me.

Having to do these things can be annoying, but we don't have much choice, do we?

Now I'm not sure what is going on. I wrote this after getting off my shift on the wifi at work. After being home a little bit, I thought I'd try to connect my computer to the modem and it seems to be working fine for me. I was going to go, with my daughter, to the isp place in the morning to see if we could exchange our modem for a newer model. I may try to get the router working on my own before we do that in the morning. My husband said that our computer person got everything working fine, but once he left it only worked for about ten minutes before going offline again. He was here over an hour trying to get it to work, so my husband didn't ask him to return again. It will be weird if I'm able to get it working on my own.

Do you have a router or a modem? I think that for some reason the router has "lost" the parameters of your computer. You should try to make the router recognize your computer again.

We got a replacement modem and a router from our isp for a small fee. I still plan on seeing if the router I just purchased from the manufacturer will work or not, but I'll switch over to that one next week when everyone else is working. If I can't get it to work, then I'll need to send it back and request a refund which is time-consuming. But, if it does work, I'll need to send back the other router to the isp. At least we won't be without the internet either way whichever ends up working out. We won't ever buy a Belkin router again, not after having all these problems over the last couple of years.

@MarshaMusselman I cannot believe that the Belkin are considered among the best.

I hope you're able to get it straightened out. I would be going nuts if my modem didn't work the way it should.

Hope it works okay- that would be frustrating but very good if he can fix it and get things moving along.
