As usual, I was watching a movie with the commentary on and kapow! I learned something about my birthplace, Galveston, Texas. The commentator, Wes Anderson, mentioned an Indian burial ground located on the island. How on earth could I have grown up not knowing this? It was never mentioned in the Texas history class I had to take in junior high school.
I don't have the internet at home so I made a note to check it out, and sure enough, he wasn't making it up.
The film was The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), co-written by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson and directed by Anderson. I wasn't as impressed by the movie as I was by this tidbit of information.
As it turned out, I got entertainment and education in one fell swoop.

I was totally surprised! Indeed, I lived there for decades and never knew. I wonder how many of the present-day residents are aware of the burial grounds. I did know that Galveston island had been inhabited by American Indians; it would follow that there were burial grounds but I never connected the dots! D'oh!
