I love the History channel and last night started the new season about the 10 Ways the World Will End and it was about an asteroid hit that would be comparable to the one that hit the Gulf of Mexico 66 million years ago that wiped out the dinosaurs. This asteroid was 7 miles wide and was traveling at 43,000 mph when it hit the Earth creating the semblance of 100 million megatons of TNT that would create thermal radiation and temps at 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit within the first 200 miles of the impact zone. Debris from the hit would be thrown 600 miles and smaller pieces would travel 1500 miles which would kill millions. It would trigger earthquakes in the 10.8 range and shock waves from the hit would be at 875 mph with tidal waves hundreds of feet high. 1/4 of Earth's population would be dead (2 billion). The secondary problems would be that the smaller debris would cause sulfuric acid that would destroy the water systems and the toxic dust would cause acid rain polluting all air and plant life and with the sun being blocked, the food chain would be broken and it would be a survive or die scenario. Six months later, there would be a deep freeze with 50 degree below normal temps but after 1 year, the dust would dissipate, the sun would return BUT, the ozone layer would be destroyed and the ultra violet radiation would cause biological damages. Temps would start to rise roughly 12 degrees above normal temps and by 2 years, the death toll would be 12 Billion. Those living in caves would be eating rats, bats and snakes for survival and the Aboriginals in Australia would survive on turtles and probably be the last survivors on the planet. All in all, roughly 99% of the population would die and the remaining 1% wouldn't be able to procreate because of the physical damage caused from radiation poisoning. In other words, bend over and kiss your butt goodbye if an asteroid hits. The remaining 9 Doomsday shows will be on Friday nights at 9pm. Check your local History channel time-frames.

@nanette64 Enjoy, I watched a true crime story last night. I wanted to see the ending but had to go to bed, I couldn't hold my eyes open any longer. it was about a kidnapped girl, the girl was found when she was nineteen, but I wondered if she was for real or if it was a scam. Did you see the ending, just wondering.

Well, hopefully none of the doomsday predictions will happen before the next show.

I think this early they would or had already launched a probe to land on asteroid Bennu, the nearest threat so far to us, I have a gut feeling that they would probably study how to blast any extraterrestrial threat. I believe that mankind would not just go down without a fight, we are so use to fighting that perhaps a threat like a collision would unite us and get our heads out of territorial and religious wars

In some instances I can see the governments saving their own butts instead of warning the people @louievill .

On a positive note, wait a minute there isn't a positive note. I guess we just have to hope it doesn't happen in our lifetime lol
