I love my Sling TV...

I have Sling through the Roku 2 device, and I would not trade it for the world!
For those who do not know what this is... It is having television service through your Internet. However, one word of advice...you do need a good connection. If your connection is weak, then you will have dropped service. Kind of like a dropped phone call.
When I first signed up 6 months back, I had about 30 plus channels. But they were good channels. Nothing like all those...what I call "fluff/filler" channels, that no one watches. They are premium channels. Since then I have over 60 now. They keep adding more channels to their lineup at no additional cost.
They have three base prices, then add on packages with various channels, that you can purchase for as little at $5, up to I believe is $15-$20. I think the highest price is for HBO.
Plus... With Roku 2, you can subcribe to other services like Hulu, and Netflix, and other paid channels.
But what some people don't realize...is that there are a kazzilion other channels that are free. Anywhere from old TV shows and movies. Bio's on all kinds of people. History on cities across the world. I feel like I can go to Italy and learn a lot about their culture, and never leave the room.
And if you are a Christian, Catholic, Buddist...whatever your faith may be...they have a ton of channels. Especially Christian channels.
You have various networks, church services from all over the US, and across the world, at your fingertips. Anywhere from a local pastor who broadcasts via satelite, to high profile ministries. At last count, there were over one thousand christian channels available to view in the christian market, and they are all for free!!!
And if you have a favorite city like I do...Houston, TX. You can look up the news channel, and find out what is going on there. And if you view it during their regular broadcast, then you can view it live...as if you are right there in the city.
Getting back to Sling. The only thing I wish they would add...is the Weather Channel 24/7. All we have is our local channel, which has very brief news, that is sponsored by the Weather Channel.
However, I did make a discovery the last time we had a tropical storm. If a major storm, and/or weather outbreak comes to our area, then the Weather Channel full streaming kicks in, and we can view whatever everyone else is viewing, and listening to, too.
Once the storm has passed, then it returns to the regular station, with short blurbs about the weather, local and sports news.
Most everyone has Internet, so why not utilize it to it's fullest advantage? With what I have... Sling only costs me $30 a month. There are no contracts, and you can switch your service to various packages anytime, with no penalties. So if you have financial issues one month, you can drop the service for that month, and pick it back up the next. Too easy... Right???
And... They will from time to time, add one or more channels for free, for a few days, and sometimes up to a month, at no additional charge. They do this to lure you into buying the other packages. It is kind of a try before you buy, deal.
Even though... I did not take advantage of this, because I saw a good deal when I came across it. For those people who are unsure if it is a good fit for them...they have a one week free trial. What can you lose??? Now unless you have a Roku 2...you can only view the Sling part on your laptop/computer. But it is still worth it.
Plus... Dish offers a deal...if you purchase three months for as little as $20 a month, then the Roku 2 player is free. They will mail it right to your doorstep.
The other thing I like about Sling is... If you are traveling, you can take Sling with you, as long as you have Internet connection. The device is small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, or you can watch full service right on your laptop.
Hotels these days, don't offer the channels they used to... So now...if you ever travel, you can take your service with you, and have some decent channels to watch.
Plus, if you are visiting a friend's/relative's house, you can watch TV in your room, without disturbing the rest of the family/friends.
I will not go back to satelite, and/or cable service ever again.
Just one note. Sling is sponsored by Dish Network, which is my favorite satelite TV service anyway. They have the cheapest prices in town.
Plus... They are still working on adding more channels. They just recently added NFL Network, GSN, and AXS TV for free on my package, so I can watch every football game that is on, at no additional charge, and it is not a temporary service.
And the few TV channels that is not available for live streaming, you can view every show in that network, on demand. Which in some ways are better, because if you missed an episode, you can go back and watch it.
I know I sound like a paid commercial. But I just felt like writing about it. LOL Try it... You just might like it...

Yesterday I called Amazon because I have Prime to ask about sling, they offer it for 19.95 and the only channels I wanted was TNT and perhaps TBS, otherwise I have Netflix. Now for the snag, unless I have a roku or their Fire stick I can't upload the app for sling and now that you've given a few tips about it I doubt I would have been happy with it, I don't have cable simply because I hate sports or news and too many of the Sling channels are aimed at sportmen. I don't think I'll bother trying to get sling.
Now if only I could get a bundle that only offered TBS, TNT, A&E and SYFY I'd probably go for it.

Sling doesn't have that many sports channels on there. However, I HATE Amazon Prime. Almost every additional channel or show, has a charge. I tried it for 24 hours and hated it so much, I did not give myself the 30 free days they offered. It was horrible.
However, you can still go online and try Sling for free on your laptop, without the Roku 2. If you like it...then pay the $20 for three months, and get the Roku 2 for free. It costs you nothing to try it.
One more thing. All those channels you like... I have them, and it costs only $25 a month for new subscribers.

Actually I can't @teresatrotter the app I'd need to watch it doesn't upload to my TV and I don't watch TV on my PC.
I like Amazon prime but it always depends on what I'm interested in watching.

@rebelann - Oh... Well... I suggested trying it on your pc, and if you liked it, then you could get the Roku 2 device. But i understand if you don't want to. It was just a suggestion.
