A trader was always a staunch devotee the Goddess Lakshmi ()Goddess of Wealth and money). There was not even a single day left without her worship. So the Goddess immensely pleased and she wanted to bless him. She came to his house.
The trader praised her with her many names and offered many sweets and other dishes also.
Now she decided to give him all the comforts, wealth, and money he wants. When the trader was praising her another Goddess viz., the Goddess of misery (Goddess of back luck, misfortune, poverty, suffering etc) was listening to him. She got angry and quickly approached him and asked 'Why you are praising Lakshmi like that? Is she so beautiful ? Is she beautiful than me?'. At this the Goddess Lakshmi got angry. They started quarrelling . The Goddess of Misery will not be beautiful . She will be very ugly and black in color without any attraction.
Now the scene is shifted to a beauty contest.
They both at a time approached the Trader and insisted him to say who was more beautiful.
The Trader was totally disappointed. He is now in a total confusion. He can not purchase trouble from anybody. He can not displease anybody. He was very intelligent. Immediately he arranged for a Catwalk. The event was over with only one spectator ie., the Trader
Now he has to give his opinion. They both asked for his decision.
The trader shrewdly replied " You both are very beautiful. No one can beat the other.
The Goddess Lakshmi is the most beautiful lady I have ever seen when she is walks and comes towards me she is very beautiful. Lakshmi pleased immensely. Now she decided to move towards the Trader always.
The Goddess of misery is very beautiful while she is walking away from me. Now, the Goddess of misery also felt very happy.about the decision and started going away from the Traders always.
That is why even for today the Trading community is considered as the Richest Community in India.

They are surely the richest but I don't think they are free of all misery.
