Here's An Interesting Word For Today

Hyperbole goes beyond simile and metaphor. I found this example from Paul Bunyan: “Well now, one winter it was so cold that all the geese flew backward and all the fish moved south and even the snow turned blue. Late at night, it got so frigid that all spoken words froze solid afore they could be heard. People had to wait until sunup to find out what folks were talking about the night before.” The idea is exaggeration, of course, but it can be carried out over paragraphs and pages. This one is cute, if someone wants an example of hyperbole that isn't cute, look no further than a political speech on tonight's news. Or better yet, don't. Bake some cookies or something.
