Day 28
Proverbs 10:11
Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirs up strife: but love covers all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
A person can say many things some to their hurt and some to their good. Eventually we become known by the words we say.
Solomon had a lot to say about the words that come out of our mouths. When people use words of wisdom, blessings flow to them. When people use words of strife and hatred, violence follows them around like a faithful companion.
We can use positive words that encourage and lift people up, or we can be negative and find ourselves lonely and miserable all the days of our lives.
In today’s society we find many foolish speakers, and the worst part of their foolishness is that nobody can chastise them for their words, at least not like they did back in the day when your parents took you to task and your backside stung for a bit. One thing between then and now, you learned quickly not to say and do such foolishness again. Nothing stops a foolish man in his tracks today. They can say anything they like because they know nobody will say anything against them, at least not in public. However, get a group of people together and the topic of conversation is the foolishness that came out of someone’s mouth.
As Christians, we are always supposed to let our words be tempered with grace, love and forgiveness. When we do we cover the sins of those we love, and that forgiveness, grace, and love will hopefully change that person from a foolish one to one of love and understanding.
David was ever mindful of the words that came out of his mouth and pleaded with God to let his words be acceptable at all times.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (KJV)
That should be our constant prayer so that we too will be pleasing to God and man by the words we say.
Let’s pray: Father, let the words of my mouth be pleasing and acceptable to you and not foolish, lacking understanding. Help me encourage others and lift them up when life brings them down. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
