Well, It's Over In More Ways Than One

The transport got here, the man driving was very nice and I got to my dental appointment about a half an hour early. The young gal who did the x-rays and pictures was a sweetheart. Seemed to take forever to get all of that done. Then the hygienist came in and examines my teeth. Ugh! That sharp thing hurt! I made a joke and the big baby that I felt like went over well. Then the dentist came in and did an examination of my mouth. Checked it for cancer. None. That's good. There is obvious infection and a lot of them only have the roots left. Then he explained that he would put in a temporary set of dentures to begin. I would have them in for about six months. They are thin and he would add to the thickness of them as he fit them in my mouth. Then I would get the permanent ones. I was then visited by the financial gal. She was nice. Told me about different options for payment. In house they would do three payments. Then there was one they guarantee, and a couple others for loans. Plus dental insurance places. It would cost me $9,000.00 to get my teeth extracted, the temporary ones, and then the permanent dentures. There is no way I can afford that. I know I could never get a loan for that amount of money. So, my only other option is a couple places here in town that do them on a sliding scale. I tried one of them several years back but never went through with it. And it takes FOREVER to get in. I think I am just going to have broken, ugly teeth, what there are left of them, and have to either gum my food or eat pudding and soup for the rest of my days. I will do some calling of Medigap and a few things and see about getting the money but there isn't much chance. Maybe I will start one of those Go Fund Me profiles and get a hand out. Ya right! Yeah, I am sad. Hope you have had a better day.

The options for dental care are very sparse. I am so sorry. I am glad you did not end up with a massive anxiety attack though.

I was very nervous and told them of my anxiety and why. They were very nice. I ended up paying $115 for the exam today and transportation and it was all for nothing.

I'm sorry you didn't have a good day. =( I hope there is some way you can get it done. I know it's so expensive and I hate that.

I wish there was a way. It's just too expensive.

I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering and that the much needed dental treatment is being so costly. I sure hope that your options will work out at the end. To be honest, I thought your country has the best medicare insurances where everyone will have enough coverage but to learn this from you is really an eye opener for me. Again, I really do hope things will work out eventually for you and to your favor. Take care.

Canada has a better medical program than we do. Thanks for your kind words. I hope so too.

I'm so sorry. So you're not on Medicaid or Medicare? Both should have dental options for you that won't cost that much out of pocket. Is there someone you can talk to about your situation?

I don't have Medicaid. I do have Medicare parts A, B, and D. No dental. That is my question? Is there someone I can talk to about my situation. Don't want to bring the state in on it so I am really at a loss.
