Domestic Violence Day - I was watching the TV news tonight and the newspeople started to talk about today being "Domestic Violence Day." Now then, I go for special days, holidays, celebration days, and all sorts of oddball days, but "Domestic Violence Day?" That got me to thinking of appropriate ways to celebrate "Domestic Violence Day." I started to get some ideas by way of things remembered and stuff that only my own strange mind might think up without any remembering - for the things that strange mind come up with would never happen. No. Would they? First on the list was remembering the day my bride took the small floor rug outside, clipped it up onto one of the wash lines, picked up a baseball bat, and just beat the daylights out of that poor rug. Domestic violence. Had to be domestic violence because no one would carry on that way in public. Then there was the "time of the pepper." Never was a fried egg so blanketed with so much pepper. If that is not domestic violence, then I don't know the meaning of those two words. The ten-dollar bill. Oh yes, I recall that one. "May I have a dollar for the kid at the front door who is trying to earn a bicycle by his selling candy bars?" "Well my dear bride, all I have is a tenner." "Oh, that will work." (Financial domestic violence) Whuuuuppp - and there went that ten bucks. That was not only domestic violence, but it was actually hand-to-hand combat. "I want to watch the Thursday night football game. It is on TV starting at 7pm." "Oh no. That's when 'The Secret Life of Portia' is showing on Channel Two. You lose again tonight." (An example of chronic domestic violence of a mental nature.) Enough of this, right? As has been declared many times before now, Violets are black and blue and let's have whirled peas.
