Cabbie's Knowledge

If you jump into one of London's black cabs, you can test the cabbie's 'knowledge' acquired through years of driving the capitol's streets.
Just ask to go to the Policeman's hook and if you finish up on Great Newport Street, by Leicester Square, then you have a driver with the knowledge.
Renovation work was being carried out on a building on the street, in the 1930s, and close by a police officer would be busy directing traffic. When it was hot, the officer's coat would be hung up on a nail at the work site. Once the work was finished, the nail disappeared, but it was requested that a hook be provided and it duly was.
Still there to this day, you can see the hook to the right of the door of the White Space building.
The police no longer direct traffic here, so you don't get to see the hook in action!

@Ronrybs I still use pub navigation, as in left at the Royal Oak, right at the Dog & Duck, etc

Having to give directions to the taxi driver is a little weird.
