Do you do the easy part first? Or the hard part first?

I'm sipping my first cup of coffee, staring at a pair of Realistic (brand) speakers a co-worker gave me. They need cosmetic restoration, which makes me happy. I'll start with the most difficult (water damaged) surface, and then get to the easier ones later. When I grade papers and in-class assignments, I'll do the papers first, and celebrate with the shorter in-class assignments later. When I do laundry, more difficult Oxyclean soaks come first, and the rest is a breeze. It's more or less the same with dishes. Some soaks. Some pre-scrubbing, then in they go. But it occurs to me that I don't always do the "hard part first." When I vacuum, I do the floor first. Then I think about using an "attachment" and getting under my couch, my bed, etc. Do you have a easy/hard pattern when it comes to projects or tasks? I'm still trying to figure out whether I do or not.

A big part of my job is washing dishes and pots and pans etc. I always try to get the pans asap as they take ages to clean...the dishes/plates are easy just spray them off then send them off onto the conveyor belt through the dishwasher. I think I always try to do the hard stuff first in anything then once that's done the rest is gravy

That's what I'm doing right now with these new Realistic brand speakers. See all the clamps? I'm fixing what's really broken first, then I'll get to sanding and oiling.

I prefer to get the hard part done first...even with things like eating...i eat the 'not-so-flavored' food first and then enjoy the yummy parts.

I only do that when I'm time-limited.

I always try to do the tougher jobs first so my day get easier as I go along but it rarely works out that way as other people mess up any sense of order I try to bring to my corner of the universe

At work, I think I get a couple of easy things done first, to up my sense of self-efficacy, then tackle the tough stuff, then come back to the easy stuff.

I like to get the hard work done first so the easy is last and I know it will be done with soon.

That's more or less what I think I usually do. I'll replace the photo I used with one of the new speakers that my colleague gave me. I'm gluing broken stuff together right now, and haven't sanded (the easy part) a thing yet.

Undecided. Sometimes easy come first then other times hard comes first.

I think I try to do hard first more often. But I can think of examples where I do easy first.

I think it depends on the time. If time is limited, easy first and hard later or in small chunks.

If time is really limited, I'll do something like a "water treatment" that can dry while I'm off doing other things.

it depends on what is is and how I feel, sometimes hard to easy is nice, sometimes I procrastinate the hard part till every little easy bit is done

Heh. I was true to my pattern yesterday (Sunday). I did the hard part of some speakers (rebuilding parts of the back) before returning to sanding. But with vacuuming, I did the floor but didn't bother with the little nooks and crannies.

If I have a pattern, it seems to start with procrastination unless the task is something I am going to enjoy.

Most of us can relate to that. I'm doing it right now.

I learned it's best to tackle the more difficult projects first. The rest is a breeze.

It depends for me too. When I'm entering archival data at the school I might do a heap of short, easy ones first so the pile of paper looks a lot smaller. With other tasks I might do the hard stuff first then have the reward of easier stuff. And what about eating? I used to eat the stuff I didn't like first and get it out of the way. But that is against my general rule which is that you never know when your time is up so always eat your dessert first. :)

If I can I do the difficult bit first, the easier bit is some relief after all that concentration

Always the hard first...just like in food- I eat the less tasty first to finish with "sweet end"

I do the hard part first. I am mostly fresh and more energetic when I start, so hard parts are easy to tackli then. Afterwards, when I am tired, I can do easy tasks. :)

I like to do the hard part first. I always save my favorite part of a meal for last usually too. I usually have a pattern that I use when doing things.

Most of the time I do the hard part first, but not everything. When I clean the kitchen I leave the oven, the stove and other annoying tasks for later.

those speakers're gonna be beauts once yer done with 'em :) i tend to tackle that which's most diff'cult first, though sometimes those tend to take the most time, lol.

I'm like you--I will try to get the hard part out of the way, first, but sometimes I will do something easy if I don't have time to do more (and I often procrastinate by doing something completely different if it's VERY hard!!)

@TheHorse I like to start with an easy task and work my way up to the harder task.
