Dear Hurricane Matthew:
Today is National Do Something Nice Day. So please, do us all a favor, do something nice for us like turn east and head out to sea. It's been really nice getting to know you over the past week, but I have found that I just don't like you as a friend.
I will do something nice for you if you do something nice for us and promise not to hit us. I will tell everybody that you are a good guy and that you meant us no harm!
Please, Matthew, consider my request on this day.
Sincerely,
Florida

I had heard that Nancy, who lives in Melbourne along the coast, was planning on evacuating. I hope she is okay.

@JudyEv I'm pretty sure your Melbourne was around before our Melbourne was, so you can blame us for copying you!

@moffittjc Every time I read 'Melbourne' I think of 'our' Melbourne. I must try to remember it isn't all about Australia, Australia, Australia!

Jennifer, is everything okay for you so far? Everything I keep seeing on the news is that Jacksonville could have a lot of flooding due to the storm surge. Unfortunately, the storm will be passing over you when there is a high tide, making the flooding worse. I hope you staff safe! Give us update as much as you can!

@moffittjc Our house does have some water coming in under the front door and the power has been flashing on and off so we know we're about to lose it all together. =(
God be with us!

@LovingMyBabies I'm praying for you and your family Jennifer! Stay safe! I already have a leak in my roof, and the bad stuff hasn't even hit us yet!

So far, so good! The effects of the storm are just starting to be felt where I live, so it's still too early to tell how bad it will be here. The worst of the storm is expected to pass over us in about 5 hours.

@vandana7 It would be really nice if it would die out right now before it comes over me!

Sad to say, the hurricane has already killed people. Hope it just fizzles out before there is more damage.

Unfortunately, I just heard that there has been one fatality here in Florida as a result of the hurricane. Hopefully, there won't be anymore deaths.

@moffittjc I have read that Miami had almost no damages. Now we can only hope that Jacksonville will not suffer too much.

@LadyDuck Yes, the storm really didn't come that close to Miami, so they escaped damage. The storm is coming much closer to Jacksonville, so they can expect to be hit a lot worse than Miami was.

Florida thanks you for your kind thoughts! The worst of the storm has passed south Florida, and from talking with my family members down there, they did not have as much damage as they thought they would! People living along the coast could have more damage though from the storm surge, but we may not know the full extent for another day! Officials are worried that Jacksonville could have a lot of flooding from the storm surge, as the hurricane will be passing by that city today during high tide, making the storm surge even worse.

How are things in Gainesville? I am hoping all we get is some rain in Ocala. We could use that rain up here in CT

@moffittjc My brother has a home on Anastasia Island, they did not over promise and under deliver there, he thinks he probably has 3-4 feet of water damage on his fist floor, right up over the dunes.

It was pretty much a non-event here in Gainesville. Some brief bands of rain and some occasional wind gusts, but it wasn't even close to as bad as they said it would be! They always over-promise and under-deliver on these storms! lol

He's being more cooperative right now than we thought! Every indication was going to have the eye of the storm make landfall in Florida, but good ole Matthew has remained offshore, sparing Florida the worst of the damage from the eye!

Let us hope that old windy Matthew heeds your request and moves on eastward in a hurry, blowing himself on out to oblivion.

Well, he's being somewhat cooperative right now, with his eye remaining offshore. He was forecast to make landfall in Florida, but thankfully he preferred to stay mostly offshore!

@JamesHxstatic It will be bad in some places along the coast I'm sure, but not as bad as they originally feared. I've seen some news footage of St. Augustine, and their historic downtown (which is along the water) is flooded right now from the storm surge.

I survived the hurricane yesterday with no major damage, so I guess that means something nice did happen! We got really lucky here where I live that there wasn't much damage at all. Wish I could say the same for people who live along the east coast, because they weren't so fortunate.

@just4him Thanks. There certainly were a lot of others on the coast who weren't so lucky. And the flooding right now in North Carolina is just so devastating to see.

Maybe the hurricane needs to calm down a tad. He is too hysterical. Matt come on! It's fine dude. Just take it easy, yeah? You will hurt someone going like that. It's not nice hurting others.

Matthew is being more cooperative than we thought. So far, he's being a good boy and staying offshore, which is what we were hoping!

Normally, storms like this will head out into the Atlantic Ocean and fizzle out, but sometimes they'll move their way over towards Europe and produce bad storms there. However, for this particular storm, it is going to go in a big circle and come back next week toward Florida again. It's rare that something like that happens with a hurricane.

Hello there.
I think that last year we got the tail end of a hurricane which was bad enough.
I've seen pictures of them on the telly and I have seen the damage they do so I hope it does turn east and go out to sea but also that it doesn't come near us.
National Do Something Nice Day.
We need to have such a day here. The government could do something nice and resign. Mind you most likely the next lot would be as bad.

Yes, unfortunately Haiti suffered greatly. And I think this is just the beginning of the suffering for them, as typically they experience disease outbreaks after catastrophic events like this one. Our government is already sending the military there with lots of food and water and other relief supplies, so at least we're trying to help out as quickly as we can.

I survived! We had about 17 total hours of storm impacts here, but we made it through relatively unscathed! In fact, this morning the sun is shining with clear blue skies, and nice cool temperatures. I will be heading in to work here soon to check on all our facilities and see how quickly we can get our swimming pools re-opened.

Hi Anna, my secret crush! I'm doing well! Hope you are having a good weekend! The hurricane is just now approaching us, so the wind and rain is just starting to increase. The storm will pass over us during the next 17 hours, with the worst of it hitting us in about 5 hours. I think we are getting a really lucky break, as the eye of the hurricane has remained offshore, sparing Florida the worst of the damage. My family in south Florida told me this morning that the damage there wasn't as bad as they expected, so that is a good sign!

@annaroselock Thanks! I had to take a brief break from myLotting, as we lost power for a little while. But the electricity is back on for now, although I expect it to go off and on the rest of the day! How's life in England?

Oh dear! That was witty... but really - how are you guys holding up? Being from Minnesota I sometimes think you Southern states have it made when it comes to weather, but I see you have your own (dangerous) weather issues.

I'm doing great right now, but we are just now starting to feel the northern edge of the hurricane move into our area. The worst of the storm will hit us in about five more hours. Altogether, we can expect about 17 hours of bad weather from this hurricane. Thankfully, I'm inland enough where we won't have as bad of damage as the coastal areas.
