~I Might Have Underestimated This Hurricane~

When I first heard about it I was like yeah yeah whatever but now...well I saw the news coverage last night and we are in the zone to be hit by the hurricane. Many areas around us are being evacuated already.
I was wrong I think. We might be in trouble because we're on the East side not the West of Florida. We're not far from Georgia either and their going to get hit hard too.
Well we will be praying for our safety and everyone else's too. If we're told to leave we will find somewhere to go...
If we're evacuated or anything I will let everyone here know... Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers. =)
The picture is my youngest daughter

It can be a traumatic experience for the kids, so no matter what you do, keep a positive spirit for their sake! During the 2004 hurricanes, both of my kids were little, and getting battered by three hurricanes in a row were terrifying to them. We played a lot of board games, and did lots of fun things (with no electricity of course) around the house to keep them occupied and their minds off the storms. We built forts using blankets and chairs, we played hide and seek in the dark, etc. It really helped me keep my stress levels down as well!

@moffittjc Good point! My oldest son who's 8 is already kind of freaking out so I will make sure to make this as fun as possible for my little ones.
He said he's going in the closet for 3 days and not coming out. Lol. He's always been afraid of storms. =(

@LovingMyBabies It can be scary, for sure! You can also use this as a great opportunity to educate your kids about hurricanes and tropical systems. My kids were fascinated with the fact that the winds would start coming from one direction, and then after the eye passed the winds would then come from the opposite direction. They also were completely mesmerized by the fact that it is beautiful and peaceful in the eye of the storm. During hurricanes Jean and Frances in 2004, we actually went outside during the eyes of both of those storms and took pictures of beautiful rainbows and clear blue skies!

A very good advice @moffittjc Jennifer does have young kids. Not that old! It might come in handy to keep them from freaking out.

Be safe but don't show your children how afraid you are. Turn it into some kind of adventure and game! We will indeed be thinking of you all.

You don't have to wait to leave. Leave now, while there aren't long lines at the gas pumps and traffic snarls on I-10.

@Fourwalls We don't have a running vehicle. If we have to leave we will figure out how to leave but right now we're kind of stuck.

@LovingMyBabies You can put tap water into containers and use that too. Don't forget to get some matches.

I'm very concerned about all of you in that zone. I hope you arrange to get out with a neighbor or something, this is very worrisome. Has the news broadcast about any resources for people in your situation? Sometimes there are lines to call about getting rides out. I'm nervous and I'm not even there!

@Cinnamongrl We will get out if we're told to. We will figure something out. There were buses taking people out but that's nowhere near us.
We have a friend that can give us a ride though if we need it.

Praying that everyone of you is safe, Ms. Jennifer. The hurricane approaching your place reminds us of the devastation brought by Typhoon Yolanda which claimed almost 10,000 lives. However, the former president ordered a stop to the head count at 6,000 to avoid embarrassment to his administration for not doing much to save lives.
