a good thrifting find

While shopping for warmer baby clothes at the thrift store today, I found a small wooden rocking horse that will be perfect for my son this Christmas. It was only $8! It is unfinished wood, so I can either varnish it or paint it. I've contacted a woodworking friend of mine to get his advice on how to best finish it.

Isn't it amazing the items we can find at thrift stores? A friend of mine wants me to make a scrap fabric wreath for her by the month of May. I hope I can find fabric at GoodWill or Salvation Army soon! Do you know how much the fabric (such as bed sheets) would cost?

Honestly, it depends on the store. Each thrift store sets their own prices, so I couldn't speculate on what they'd cost in your area. I do know that sometimes yards of fabric show up there, so you might find some of those in addition to the sheets or curtains.

Varnishing. One of the kids is riding on it right now!

It really is nice, he will love it. Will you be able to keep it hidden until Christmas?

@spiderdust Sorry I didn't read the date. It's just the right size for him there.

@sprite1950 That's ok, it's kind of nice when older posts get new activity. The rocking horse was such a great purchase. Both my toddler and his 7 year old brother love rocking on it. I think my 9 year old is a little envious because she's too big for it now.

I may actually be finished with his Christmas shopping at this point. A parent from my youngest daughter's school gave us one of those wire and wooden bead mazes along with some baby clothes that her son had outgrown, and I stashed the maze away for Christmas. I have a couple other items stashed away as well, including a little Santa Claus Waldorf doll that I found *last* Christmas (before he was born!). I wish finding gifts for the others was so easy!

You never know what you can find at a thrift shop. I never knew about them till I worked at one and then I loved them. I found things I was looking for that could not find anywhere else.
