Something to Celebrate

Greece
October 10, 2016 2:38pm CST
Last week we celebrated our 41st Wedding Anniversary. We decided to mark the occasion by taking a trip to the Peloponnese and the town of Nafplio. I had been there a long time ago but only vaguely remembered the waterfront and the shops, we thought another trip was due. Nafplio has great atmosphere and we enjoyed eating in the little lanes between houses that had been improvised into outdoor restaurants, it was still warm and buzzing with tourists. We drove up to Palamidi Castle which dominates the town and enjoyed the marvelous views over the Argolic Gulf and the town spread out far below. Viewing inside the castle was quite an undertaking because it was full of steps to climb and stoney paths that had survived the days when the Venetians, who were in occupation, built it in the early 18th century. They must have had strong boots and even stronger legs. It is quite a wonder of engineering and even more of a wonder that the Greeks managed to capture the castle without a fight. The photo is of me sitting on the ramparts with the town far below.

41 years married, that's a sentence and a half! Congratulations, and that's a superb photo! It is much more striking than the view one gets of Alicante from the castle there, for all Alicante's history and grandeur.

@pgntwo The Brexit isn't doing UK nationals living in Europe much of a favour either since our pensions come in UK pounds and have to be changed into Euros at a high loss just now.

@41CombedaleRoad Good answer! Barely half that for me... And the gov't is making things very difficult at the moment with its silly immigration rule changes as far as EU nationals in the UK are concerned. I hope they begin to see the folly of their ways before it is too late...

I think you must have visited Ireland and kissed that blarney Stone - but lovely to hear from you. The steps did nothing good for my knees and we both slept a lot when we returned! If I go up too many steps I have to expect some downs afterwards.

Let us know how the magnesium spray works for you. I'm better coming down than going up, that is when I have gravity to give me a hand.

It was certainly busy there even though it was the end of the tourist season.

We have visited this wonderful place years ago with my husband. The Venetians seem to love a lot the steps. My legs hurt every time I visit Venice.

My friends seem to go on cruises, I guess there are lifts for travelling between decks since they return fat and happy without any problems with their legs.

They tend to be long words, four syllables when two are quite enough to cope with.
