Muscley mushrooms!

I’ve quite often seen various plants growing through paving, even trees if the place is left undisturbed long enough, but I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen mushrooms doing it. And this is on our new driveway! Still they could come in handy I guess as they are shaggy ink caps which are edible when young. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2016.

We get fungus cropping up on wet areas of our lawn. I certainly would never eat them!

Are they actually growing through or just on top of some thin layer of gunk that's accumulated on your drive?

They are actually growing through the gaps between the blocks. I guess a thread of mycelium doesn't need that wide a space!

@Fleura Now I look really closely I can see they are lined up with the gaps. That's a relief. I thought maybe you'd discovered some form of super-fungus that would obliterate the world.

I would never consider eating a wild mushroom since I don't know one from another but it does look odd seeing them growing in the driveway.

They are cute, but I would not dare to eat those mushrooms. I had a vase full of dirt in the garden, placed in a shaded area near the tree. I went to get it yesterday to plant a blueberry bush and it was full of small mushrooms. It was so humid this year.

I've had mushrooms grow up through my gravel before, but never concrete. Nice!

Muscley mushrooms? I can just imagine them lined up in a Mr Mushroom Universe competition.
