Sometimes when you are too nice

.....people will take you for a ride, won't they? They will take things for granted, or even worse, some will take advantage of you, right? Just thinking out loud as many times I'm very easygoing and I have learnt to "make things known" to some people so that they don't go overboard or just simply understand the situation or how much effort one has put in. For example, I do computer repairs and in whatever I do I do my best and since I'm one who likes fast service, I expect myself to do the same for others. Although sometimes I charge a bit more but I make sure I get the job done and guarantee I deliver. I just did a recovery job on a pendrive for someone and I told the person that normally data recovery is very expensive, at least minimum twice the price I was charging her so that she was aware. It's just like a housecall, sometimes things can be fixed within minutes even seconds but just because of that, doesn't mean you pay the man less. I'm aware that western countries at least some of the people are more understanding but Asian countries especially....ok maybe I'll just say Malaysia so you guys won't throw your shoes at me.....some of the people here can sometimes, be utterly cheapskate...got discount ah? Wah, so expensive ah? ( sometimes you just want to tell it to their face - wah, you think my family and I eat grass ah? Live on fresh air and sunshine as the proper English way to put it )

I agree with you. You need to set your standards, but not too high or nobody will ask you to fix their computers and not too low or they will take too much advantage of you. Being competitive is always the best way.

But I'm not just saying business but I'm referring to generally but that was what came to mind at the moment. I mean I have earned tips for waiting at tables as well which is not a common practice from where we come from. In fact we are not allowed to take it so those who gave just either stuffed it into my hand or pocket discretely. In fact it wasn't one day but consecutive days from the same people which I don't think I did anything out of the ordinary. I just believed in giving my best that's all. Maybe what I'm trying to say is people need to be more appreciate, that's all. Love makes the world go round

@just4him Yeah sad but true, that's how mostly things work here. Nah, I'm very discreet.

@zweeb82 I'm surprised you're not allowed to take tips as a waiter/waitress in your country. Here they count on those tips because the typical wage for waiters/waitresses is less than minimum wage. It's good you were shown such appreciation and I hope it won't go bad for you.

If that is the case there , then maybe you should mark up your fee so when they haggle , you still got your real fee .

like my son who takes advantage of my mother all of the time...he knows she is going to give him whatever he wants because she's afraid of making him mad.....sigh.

Take care of yourself first, that's what I always say to myself. If I won't look after myself, no one else will.

People take advantage in all countries and they all want something for nothing. Just the way the world is, sad truth. People need to realize it's business-nothing personal. I have been through it many times with providing childcare. People want to pay me practically nothing to watch and care for the most important posessions they have!

I hate being nice to people when I really shouldn't because you get screwed in the end. Its a trust issue with anyone now.

People like you and I too think the same way about fellow humans but there is no value, twenty years back it is genuine to help someone, today selfish and killing the beautiful word hospitality.

I still would be nice and accomodating but at least I have learnt to outrightly reject especially those who are out there just to grab everything for their own selfish gain and who are just too much
